Match report NMJFC U9s Bees - 10/09/23
New Mills Bees v Whaley Bridge Tigers U9's
A scorching day to kick off the under 9's season with the later kick off. Up against a team we met a few times last season which always produced a good game of football.
The Bees this season are; Stanley, Joshua, Rocco, Leo and Charlie, with the addition of Brooke and welcome to William and Hunter.
Today's line up was everyone (minus Brooke) so we borrowed Dylan from the Wasps (big thanks to Dylan for playing 2 games in this heat)
The game kicked off with the teams getting stuck in straight away. Quite an even match in the early stages... a nice break from the Bees saw Charlie run through and hit a cracker to get off the mark for the season. Leo had a couple of 'range finders' after quick breaks but couldn't quite bend them past the Whaley keeper.
There was some great passing and moving out on the other wing from William and the Bees defence was called upon more than once. Stanley made save after save (It's really pleasing as a coach to see a player develop and Stanley has come on in leaps and bounds)
Rocco had some good battles with the Whaley attackers, Hunter made some useful interventions and Joshua made some key tackles. Wherever Dylan was asked to play, he got stuck in and made some great forward passes to his team mates.
The second half was a little tougher with the players tiring in the heat and Whaley getting the upper hand. As a first game of the season with players who haven't played together before (and trained very little together) there's a lot of good points we can take away. Huge thanks to our number 1.. Stanley 'safe hands' Barton for a player of the match performance in goal.
We go again next week..
