Nice and bright in Glossopdale this morning saw The Bees up against another new team this season. We were much depleted today with 4 of the Bees missing, so we had to rely on drafting in some of last weeks opponents (thank you to the Hornets players and parents for helping this game go ahead👍🏻)
This week we lined up as: Stanley, David, Brooke and Leo and were assisted by Ronan, Frankie, Oliver B and Albie.
The match kicked off and the Bees made a good early impression with a quick attack. There was lots of good possession of the ball in midfield with Albie trying a couple of ‘range finders’ Early on. A nice break down the left saw Albie thread the ball through to Leo who found a way past the Buxton keeper for his first of the game.
Oliver B was pressing, winning the ball and finding some lovely passes forward to Leo and Brooke. Frankie was bossing the defence and encouraging David to find good positions.
Another great attack from the Bees had the ball pinging around the penalty box until Leo got it under control and put it in the back of the net.
Buxton had the tactic of leaving one player well into the the Bees half which kept us on our toes when the defenders moved forward when we were on the attack.
🚀 Ronan was introduced to add some steel to the defence and keep the Buxton attack at bay.
Half time came and went, simple instructions to the Bees… keep passing, pressing and go for the second ball.
The second half was again very tough, Buxton were pressing, but when needed.. Stanley was great making some fantastic saves.
Ronan received the ball in defence… played an amazing ball over the top of everyone, the ball bounced near the keeper who was off his line but Leo was onto it and somehow stuck his leg up and tipped it over the keeper and in it went for number 3.
All through the second half, the passing between the team was absolutely amazing. David gained confidence and managed to get the ball forward to a teammate lots more and really got involved 👍🏻
Another attack and Leo made it 4 for him on the day. The Bees were really settled and playing calm football, it was great to see. Almost at the final whistle a good break down the left saw the ball come across and Brooke deservedly got on the end and scored a great goal after a fantastic all round performance.
For a team with missing players, everyone understood their role and played some great football.
Player of the match was a close call between Brooke and Leo. Brooke had been involved in so much of the creativity in midfield, winning the ball and getting it out to a winger, or a nice forward run. In the end it was awarded to Leo for not only his goals but all round contribution of forward play.
We go again after half term 👊🏻
