Match Report NMJFC U9s Bees - 28/01/24

v Buxton Juniors U9 Comets

Surprisingly mild weather at Glossopdale for the 1pm kick off today. The Bees had the luxury of a full squad to choose from, with our newest player, Callum set to make his debut.

We lined up with Stan the man in goal, William and Rocco in defence. Leo on the right, Millie on the left and David in the middle.

Leo was named as captain for the day and we were ready to go.

Buxton kicked off and straight away the Bees were pressing. We had an early break with Rocco sending a pass down the line to Mille, who took the ball and ran past the Buxton defender and hit the first for the Bees ⚽️

We’d settled well and were playing our pass and move game which is developing week on week. It was clear we were up for this game. From another defensive position (after a quick swap with Brooke coming on for David) we were on the attack with Leo using his speed and confidence to hold off the Buxton defender and play a fantastic pass across the pitch to Millie who smashed in her second⚽️

Both Will and Rocco were having great games at the back, sweeping up and not allowing the Buxton attackers any joy. On more than one occasion Rocco chased back and quickly closed out an attack. On the occasions where Buxton made it through, Stanley was there to clear the ball.

Another change saw Leo move upfront and Charlie make way for Callum to come on for his first taste of HPJFL football. The game at this point was fast and furious.

That second goal gave the Bees a cushion….. which they sat on and seemed to relax which allowed Buxton to get a foothold in the game.  Half time couldn’t arrive any quicker.

Both Rick and I got the team together and went over our great start and how we’d taken our foot off the gas in the last part of the half…. This would re-energise the Bees.

Second half and we lined up as Stan, Will, Rocco, Leo, Brooke, Millie and Charlie.  The team talk seemed to work and we got back into passing and moving.

From some tireless work in midfield from Brooke who never stopped tackling and running all day, the Bees broke forward, the ball pinged up in the air and our CW7 was there to acrobatically get it over the line for his first of the day ⚽️ (he’d had a few chances earlier but not quite hit the target so this was brilliant to see)

Everyone was moving forward looking to link up play and add a final pass to set up a goal. On the occasion Buxton caught us playing too high, Rocco was there to sweep up put the ball into touch or upfield .. Charlie battled through and hammered home his second ⚽️ … he looked at the coaches and gave us that cheeky smile 👍🏻

Callum and David came on for Rocco and Will and were quickly involved again making crucial tackles and holding out the Buxton players.

When the final whistle blew, everyone shook hands and knew they’d been in a great game of football.  Every one of the Bees should be proud of how they played today.

Our player of the match was Rocco.. he did his job superbly well, he chased back, made some fantastic challenges and bossed the Bees defence 🥊 #ourRoc
