Match Report NMJFC U9s Bees U9 vs Chinley Whites U9 - 19/11/23
This week we had another full squad to choose from with Stanley, Will, David, Rocco, Brooke, Millie, Leo and Charlie.
A hint of deja vu with our opponents today as it was only last week we played the other Chinley team. We knew this game would give the Bees a tougher time and we weren’t wrong.
The Bees started brightly, but whether it was down to the rain or slight drop in temperature, our passing game wasn’t nearly as good as it has been in recent weeks. All the momentum we’d gained seemed to disappear. Players were holding onto the ball just a bit too long and were quickly closed down by Chinley.
There were flashes here and there with some great runs from Millie out on the left and Leo out on the right getting the ball into the middle but we couldn’t catch a break and get a clean shot on goal.
One of the positives today was how much Rocco is developing as a player. More and more when he gets the ball in a defensive position from a goal kick, rather than kick it forward, Rocco is now moving with the ball, with his head up looking for a pass through the middle, or along the wing. We now want Rocco to be more commanding with his defensive partners and rally the team.
Will and David made some crucial interceptions to protect Stanley and then get the ball moving forward. Both played some great balls forward to the wingers and through the middle to Brooke and Charlie.
Charlie was battling all day long and trying to get some space to move forward, but was foiled time and again.
Stanley was ready to go like a coiled spring when he was needed and made a world class save when he rushed out and got his body behind a shot from the Chinley striker (even the opposition coaches shouted ‘great save’ !!)
As mentioned last week, Brooke is the midfield lynchpin always looking for the ball, always tackling and passing forward to Charlie, Leo or Millie.
Brooke definitely covers some turf when she’s playing and even after picking up a slight knock, she was eager to get right back in the action (after some physio and tlc from Rick… aka Dad) Brooke was our player of the match today as she never stopped running, tackling, passing and finding space 👍🏻
We go again next week 🐝
