Match Report NMJFC U9s vs Dukinfield Youth JFC U9 Girls – 04/11/23

Despite the recent miserable weather, nothing could dampen the spirits of these girls and their WolfCat Ultra supporters!

After last week’s strong performance, the girls’ arrived eager to play and get stuck into another game of fantastic football.

It was the end of the half-term break this week, so our squad was down to 8, with Millie being away on holiday.

Our girls this week played against a strong, regimented side from Dukinfield, and starting the game we had Ava in net, Agnes and Ebony in defence and Annabella and Seren up front. Straight from the first whistle, our girls fought a mighty battle, not letting their opponents aware of their relative newness to the team - with most girls still on single digits for the number of games played.

Proving some remarkable determination today we had Ava, who despite not feeling 100%, demonstrated conviction and fortitude, taking first dibs on net and saving some fantastic goals. Paige likewise arrived injured today, but didn’t let this affect her performance, finding some excellent positions and taking some admirable shots on target. Our POTW from last week, Agnes, is still recovering but got completely stuck in, opening up the game with some great passes and tackles.

The girls started strong, with Jessica taking on some excellent tackles, Ebony and Annabella responding to threats with conviction and Seren making some exceptional runs with the ball, the team from Dukinfield however demonstrated some extreme talent and kept our girls on their toes.

The half-time whistle blew and our girls’ thirst for a goal was clearly evident, urged on with the coach’s promise to celebrate the next goal with a ‘worm’. The second half began with Emily in net, and she made some fantastic saves from some very powerful shots. Inspired by the coach’s instruction to enjoy the game, the girls continued to put on a solid performance, with some superb tackling, teamwork and positioning. Each member of the squad worked hard and put in a tenacious and positive performance.

This week’s Player of the Week went to Ava. Ava put in a commendable performance today, despite not feeling particularly well this week. She listened to the coaches’ instructions well and demonstrated wonderful attitude to her teammates. Well done Ava, and well done to all the girls, who, despite the odds, are courageous and hard-working from start to finish, week after week. And yes, for those wondering, the coach’s promise of a worm did materialise - much to the joy of the girls and to the surprise of their supporters!
