Today we witnessed an exciting match on the first Saturday of February, against a tough side of Stockport County Ladies. The starting lineup showcased a strong and determined team: Emily guarded the net, supported by defenders Annabella and Seren, while Agnes and Ava took charge up front.
The first 10 minutes saw intense play, with both teams displaying remarkable resilience. Emily demonstrated her goalkeeping prowess with a number of excellent saves, and Seren and Paige's efforts were evident as they both made some fantastic shots on target, although hit the post a couple of times.
Stockport managed to secure the first goal, but New Mills responded with determination, chasing down the ball relentlessly. Seren continued to impress with her runs, while Jessica showcased some excellent dragbacks that we have been practicing at training recently. Ava also had a commendable game, demonstrating awareness by looking over her shoulder and dropping back when necessary. Agnes also played well with some good marking and making some fantastic runs with the ball.
Paige then stole the spotlight by scoring a brilliant goal. The first half concluded with a very close scoreline, reflective of the closely contested match.
The second half brought changes, with Jessica taking her place in the net, but faced challenges as opponents aggressively tracked down the ball. Ebony then came to the pitch and showcased her ball control skills, holding the ball up and moving it forward. Millie's performance in midfield was notable as she held the ball well and facilitated the team's forward progress. Annabella also made some good tackles and both girls attempted shots on goal.
The player of the week this week went to Agnes, who exhibited exceptional dedication. Hounding down opponents, making excellent runs with the ball, and putting in a great overall effort, although all the girls today played a pivotal role in the team's performance.
Today we witnessed an exciting and closely contested football match, especially in the first half. The girls demonstrated skill, determination, and teamwork, with standout performances from a number of our players. The drizzle may have persisted, but the girls' spirits shone brightly on the pitch. Well done girls!
