⚽️Back in business for the first game of 2022⚽️
Just before the Christmas break New Mills lost at home to Chinley, but they bounced back with a well earned 0-1 away victory against Adswood United. The under 14s also progressed in the league cup winning the game thanks to a couple of goals from super sub Devah.
Match day 6 welcomed High Lane to the home of football - The Rec.
The opening 15 minutes of the game saw both teams cancelling one another out. Until the 20 minute mark when Max’s powerful run down the left hand flank resulted in a well delivered square ball, missing out Harvey and finding the feet of William who took a touch and dispatched the ball into the bottom corner of the goal. The Millers work hard as a team and forced a corner. The ball found its way to the edge of the box only for William’s first time volley to hit the defenders back, Harvey then rushed onto the scene dancing his way past 3 defenders to then unleash a rocket into the top corner… 2-0 to the home side.
They say that you’re vulnerable just after scoring and that was the case. Almost instantly High Lane replied with a good piece of play, fizzing the ball across the New Mills penalty area for an unfortunate own goal, leaving the helpless Logan to pick the ball out of his net after not having much to do.
Midfield maestros Joe, Declan & Tom worked tremendously hard throughout the game in the centre of the park and didn’t make it easy for the away side. And neither did our defenders Luke, Nate & Gene who weren‘t prepared to concede another goal. One of the full backs went in for a 50/50 with the forward just inside the Millers penalty area resulting in a throw in. On another day it could have quite easily been given as a penalty. Unfortunately as a result the forward was later taken to hospital as a precaution. Everyone at New Mills Juniors hopes he’s ok and that he makes a speedy recovery from whatever injury he may have sustained.
The second-half saw the introduction of Luca & Devah who tried to make an immediate impact on to the proceedings. Hard-working wingbacks Ruben & Matheus were also instrumental throughout the match.
Winning the ball in midfield, Joe sprayed a delicious ‘defence splitting ball’ for Ruben to latch onto, firing a fantastic ball across the face of the goal. There wasn’t much the unfortunate keeper could do other than to palm it into the path of Luca who coolly slotted the ball home. It wasn’t long until super sub Luca was at it again. Harvey beat his man and sent the ball into a dangerous area, finding the head of Luca giving the millers a well earned lead.
At 4-1 New Mills were in complete control. They looked comfortable knocking it from left to right. Max then decided to help himself to a quick fire double, making the 1st himself and cutting in to thump into the top corner. He then danced his way into the box sticking in the bottom corner to make it 6-1. Declan finished the scoring and thoroughly deserved his goal due to his excellent performance in the centre of the park, by popping up for a cheeky tap in at the back post after an exquisite in-swinging corner. Final score 7-1 New Mills.
A great attitude with fantastic work ethic from the home side today, truly setting the standard for 2022! Well done everyone involved and thank you for your support as always.
