A fresh and crisp afternoon for the U15’s who took on Hayfield away for their local derby.
After looking for their chance to put some points on the table, the team were up for a win today and showed this straight from kick off. The game started quickly with great high pressure from the Juniors who created many goal-scoring opportunities but failed to capitalise and couldn’t seem to find the end product.
After a strong 40 minutes of end-to-end football from both sides, with New Mills being on top, the lads conceded two sloppy goals from follow up balls from a corner and a long shot. With the hunger still inside them, this did not discourage the team.
Half-Time … Hayfield 2-0 New Mills
Strong start to the second half, hitting Hayfield hard through the wings and middle of the pitch. The pressure paid off with Cian Oakes scoring a low driven shot into the keepers near post after a great overlapping run on the left side. Keeping up the dominance and pressure, New Mills then won a well-deserved penalty through Jack Toft who was brought down after running past the Hayfield back line. Cian Oakes stepped up to make the game level at 2-2. Following the equaliser heads were high and New Mills were mounting on the pressure which led to the back line being exposed and open to a Hayfield counter attack, a great strike from the Hayfield striker followed by a world class save from the keeper Toby to still keep the team level. Pressure mounted on and New Mills managed to nick the ball from a goal kick allowing Jack Toft to produce an outrageous chip over the keeper putting the team to a well fought 3-2 lead. Pressure continued but New Mills failed to capitalise on this missing a few more opportunities. In the dying minutes of the game, Hayfield come out with a counter attack with their striker taking his chances with a long shot leaving Toby wrong footed and an upsetting equaliser. 3-3. The Millers came away upset after a hard earned comeback but played outstanding and a great mentality to come back from a 2-0 deficit. Match ended 3-3, a great game to watch for both sets of fans, end to end, well done to both teams!
