Match report NMJFC Under 7s - 21/11/21

It was a crisp & cold morning in Glossop on Sunday. New Mills U7’s Blacks were down to five players available for our match against Chapel Town Yellows and this meant we had no substitutes available. Naively, I thought this would make my job a little easier as nobody would be on the side-line waiting to get on. How wrong I was…..

We started brilliantly with every one of the boys getting an touch of the ball and were unlucky not to put away some really well worked chances.

Finley had agreed to go in goal for the first time and made a couple of fantastic saves whilst Albie and Frankie both went close with some great efforts from distance.

Chapel Yellows grabbed a goal just before half-time.

Albie volunteered to “Go in net” for the second half and was incredible. He is the modern sweeper-keeper.

At one point we only had two outfield players! Finley’s first half as goalkeeper had frozen him to the core and Frankie took a kick and decided that was enough ‘Frozen Football’ for today! Safeguarding the children is paramount and we had to take a minute or two to get warm but both of them returned to pitch and played the rest of the game.

The real heroes this week were Sam & Ollie M who both had their best game of the season so far. Ollie M never giving up. Chasing back and making some incredible last ditch tackles to save his team. Whilst up the other end, Sam has never looked so confident on the ball. The more of the ball he got, the more he flourished. Self-assured & smiling he was a shining light and I can’t wait to see him go again this weekend.

Well done my little millers. We are all learning loads on this football journey, including me!

Tough conditions but your little characters continue to grow.
