The Falcons returned to Glossopdale after the festive break to play Whaley Bridge U8’s for the very first time.
To get back into the groove, the priorities for the Falcons today were keep it simple, talk to each other and win every tackle.
The first half was excellent to watch, with the Falcons seeing a lot of the ball and creating a number of chances. Angus in particular was making a lot of driving runs from midfield. Against the run of play, the opposition scored but the Falcons quickly replied with an excellent goal from Alfie ⚽️
With half-time approaching Whaley Bridge scored again with a free kick from 20 yards out that flew into the top corner. Nothing we could do about that one - an amazing goal.
At half-time there was a shuffle of positions and the Falcons carried on exactly how they left the first half. Amazing running throughout the whole team and Holly was an absolute rock at the back, playing the full second half as the main defender and displaying some fantastic tackling, passing and marking.
At the final whistle both teams and sets of coaches came together to congratulate each other on a fantastic game of football.
Special mention to today’s captain Lucas. He was excellent in the first half as the main defender, showing a great understanding of the game intercepting passes and making some great tackles. He also put his hand up to be our goalkeeper in the second half and made some very good saves.
It was great to be back today - roll on next week!
