The Falcons were up against familiar faces at Glossopdale this morning, against Hayfield U8’s.
After last week’s game (where the defending and shape of the team was outstanding), today we had to focus on maintaining this but being more attack minded and clinical in front of goal.
We talked about pressing from the front and playing with high energy straight from kick-off, as we knew this would take Hayfield by surprise - and the Falcons delivered!
Straight from the first whistle the tactic of three Falcons pressing the Hayfield defence worked and the Falcons spent most of the first period in the Hayfield half. As we expected, when Hayfield did clear the ball we had to get back as quickly as we could, keeping our defensive shape. The concentration in defence was excellent and the Falcons goalkeeper Oscar also making some excellent reflex saves when required.
After a fantastic first half, it was clear everyone in the Falcons squad was going to play their part today to ensure fresh legs were on the pitch to keep up the same tempo. With more substitutions in the second period and a few playing in new positions, the Falcons saw the game out in style keeping the ball in the oppositions corner after a period of possession.
Without doubt the best performance of the season from the Falcons today - and they rightly came off the pitch with huge smiles.
Goals today from Alfie ⚽️⚽️ and Poppy ⚽️⚽️
Special mention to Alfie who put in a real captains performance today. In the first half he was involved in absolutely everything, pressing high up the pitch and causing the Hayfield defence problems every time he got the ball. In the second half he dropped deeper as he knew he had to dig in and help the team get through the fast paced game as legs started to tire. His goals were brilliantly taken and totally well deserved.
Huge well done to the Falcons today - you were all awesome. Super proud of you all 👏🏻
