New Mills under 9s did themselves proud against a very good Total FC (UK Sports Coaching) team. They started off a little slowly and were quick to find themselves 2 goals down. Total FC were very good at keeping the pitch big and used the wide areas very well which the boys struggled to defend for the first 10 minutes. They continued to battle and started to cause Total FC a few problems creating some good chances towards the end of the first half.
New Mills started the second half very well and were defending the wide areas much better. Cole did very well in goal to keep the score at 2-0 before the lads conceded a free kick for hand ball which was changed to a penalty and went 3-0 down. The lads weren't disheartened and continued to work hard and battle away, creating several chances in the final 10 minutes. Their pressure finally paid off when Ollie headed a goal in from a corner. There was 1 final chance before the end which looked a certain goal albeit a great piece of defending from the Total FC defender. Very good team effort.
MOM-Alex, worked hard on the wing and was confident to try some dribbles. When working in defence he put in some good tackles and used his pace well.
