MATCH REPORT NMJU10’s 21st March 2026

Today the U10s faced Hazel Grove Jets in their second match of the Vernon Trophy event.

New Mills were missing James, Pavak and Stanley, but it was great to welcome Alfie back after a few weeks out. He selflessly stepped in as goalkeeper, with Charlie T and Rhys in defence, Teddy, Charlie J and Jackson in midfield, and Dylan leading the line.

The Jets started quickly, and New Mills were unfortunate to fall behind within the opening minutes. However, once the boys settled, they began to grow into the game. Dylan looked lively up front, striking the crossbar before getting a goal back. Shortly after, Jackson also rattled the bar with a powerful long-range effort.

The halftime whistle came at a good time, giving the team a chance to regroup after a demanding first half.

Following a reshuffle, New Mills came out much stronger in the second half. The intensity lifted, with tougher tackling and a real determination to win every ball and create chances.

Dylan continued to cause problems for the Jets’ defence with his pace and sharp turns, adding a couple more well-taken goals to his tally.

In midfield, Teddy set the standard with an excellent defensive display, identifying the Jets’ key playmaker and effectively taking him out of the game.

Player of the Match went to Charlie T, who was outstanding in defence. He dealt superbly with the Jets’ long balls and consistently looked to play forward, showing great composure in what was a challenging game.

A strong team performance and great effort from all the lads. 👏
