MATCH REPORT NMJU8 11th November
A frosty start for the U8’s for a 9:50 kick off at Brinnington in the Stockport Metro Junior League, against Bramhall North 75 Lions.
This week we had been talking to the kids about team work and looking out for one another. We spoke to our captain Rhys, and he agreed to lead a group huddle before kick off, this went down really well and all the kids enjoyed it. This will be something they will continue with before every game.
Before we started our game, we all paused to pay respect to the fallen and to express our gratitude for those who so valiantly gave their today for our tomorrow.
Once underway, Bramhall immediately got into our half and tested our defenders, Rhys and Charlie T, who both stood the challenge and quickly got the ball forward to Stanley who was brought down on the attack, and awarded a free kick. Stanley stepped up, calm and collected and hit home with a great strike.
Bramhall came back again putting pressure on, however the Millers were playing some superb football with attack after attack. Teddy, playing right midfield was charging down the wing and awarded a throw. For a 7 year old, he pulled off a huge throw directly into the centre to find an eagerly awaiting Stanley who converted.
Despite James's best efforts in goal, Bramhall came back again, and their efforts were awarded this time and they got the goal they had been pushing for.
The Millers were still playing some great football and after bringing Jackson into the mix, our striker Charlie J found the net.
Perhaps we backed off after this as Bramhall managed to find the net again just before the half time whistle to end the half.
After half time Bramhall were putting plenty of pressure on, this continued for what seemed like ages, but New Mills soaked up this up really well. Rhys, Charlie T and Teddy all rot in defence and were working well together with James in goal.
Eventually it came down to Stanley to add another goal. This seemed to open up the game again and we were able to create some great passing moves in midfield, this lead to some real impressive charges all the way from the back with both Rhys and Teddy kicking on when they could, and Stanley eventually netting again.
Top marks to the boys today, it wasn’t an easy game but they seemed to read it really well, taking advantage of attacking play when they could and working together to hold on when under pressure.
Player of the match was awarded to Teddy this week. Teddy was on his game today, using his speed and strength to drive our attacks and some solid work in defence. Teddy’s work rate today was super, and he didn’t stop. Great work Teddy !
Well done U8’s !
