MATCH REPORT NMJU8 20th January
Today New Mills were playing Buxton Young Bucks Blue, for the 13:10 kick off in the Stockport Metro league at Brinnington.
As the temperature was only just above freezing, both teams agreed to play 6 on 6 to keep the substitutes to a minimum and hopefully avoid anybody getting too cold.
We started with James in goal, Rhys and Charlie T in defence, Teddy and Stanley in midfield and Charlie J as striker.
We won the kick off and played back, immediately chased down by the young bucks. It was clear these were guys were chomping at the bit to get going.
Buxton were playing attacking football and our defenders who don’t usually play as a pair were really being tested. Fortunately James was on hand to keep out any efforts which slipped through.
New Mills started to build a bit of momentum and it now seemed to be a midfield battle, it wouldn’t take Stanley long to move the ball into space and find the back of the Buxton net with a superb finish.
We changed Stanley out for Jackson, knowing he would help steady up our midfield which he did just fine making sure he was putting in plenty of tackles. Also some good moves from Teddy on the right, and some long throws to create a few chances.
It was time for our striker Charlie J to step up after playing most of his game helping out in midfield, he finally managed to break through a slotted home a well placed shot on goal with great composure.
Buxton took the kick off, and ran into Rhys, who put a beautiful ball forward to Charlie J who again calmly hit us home another.
At the half the boys were in a great position but knew they would need to keep things tight to get a result out of it.
The second half started started how the first had finished, both teams pushing one another hard to get the result.
Teddy picked up an injury which even the parents winced at and was replaced by Stanley. Buxton finally managed to break through and get past not only our solid defence but also James who was doing a sterling job in goal.
Buxton continued to push and everyone in the team was up against it, tackling, and trying to get clear.
I think we had luck on our side as Buxton must have it the woodwork a few times within the last 5 minutes and James also pulling out his best saves.
Another super game for our boys today, really working hard and not giving up. FairPlay to Buxton who played a really fair game and did not give up until the final whistle.
It was once again a struggle to pick player of the match, but we decided on Charlie J who was once again superb ! He really mucked in midfield and just showed his class when attacking and getting 2 great goals.
Well done New Mills !
