Match report NMJU9 Eagles v Chapel Blues 26/03/23
As regular as clockwork, the cold, windy weather awaited us over in Glossopdale this Sunday morning against Chapel Blues. This is the penultimate game of the season and knowing how tough an opponent Chapel are, we knew we would have to be at our best to get anything out of todays match.
They are one of the best teams in the league and past results have proved they always play strong, pass the ball well, and score lots of goals.
We were down to bare bones today, so we called Poppy in from the Falcons and Brooke from the U8’s, who has done an amazing job for us so far this season when she has stepped into the team.
Since Archie R has come into the team it has proved we can score goals so if we can keep our shape at the back then we know that all elusive win is not too far away.
The match started and it was Chapel that was soon on the attack. Zac who has played superbly in goal when he has been called upon this season, was needed again to keep Chapel out. He was in great form again all match which was great to watch.
The Eagles tried to match Chapel in their passing but seemed to come up against a stubborn Chapel defence when they progressed to the final third.
Brooke and Poppy came off the bench and their presence seemed to give the Eagles a lift. Brooke was battling around in midfield and was a constant threat. Winning the ball and setting the Eagles off on attack at every opportunity. Whilst Poppy and Nathan soon worked brilliantly together at the back.
Half time came and went and it seemed to push the Eagles into another gear. Archie was now causing Chapel some problems, and Brooke was everywhere winning tackles and playing some great passing to the forwards.
The Eagles pushed forward with some regularity and Archie with some great dribbling past the Chapel defence, hit the post. This was followed by some great play from Oliver, who again found the post with only the keeper to beat.
Archie managed to get on the scoresheet with a great finish.
With only a couple of minutes left Archie and Brooke combining brilliantly to give Eagles a good run of play.
The players came off in such high spirits today, something which hasn’t happened that often this season and it was great for us as coaches to see. They played superbly today and should be proud of themselves.
Special mentions today goes to Zac, who is always putting in player of the match performances in goal and Poppy who came in from the Falcons and played with great energy at the back. Their wasn’t much that got past her today. And of course Archie who is a constant threat in front of goal.
Goals today from Archie ⚽️⚽️
Todays player of the match went to Brooke. Her best performance of the season. Quite simply brilliant today and possibly unplayable at times. She was constantly winning tackles and playing the Eagles forward at every opportunity. Unselfish, she combined superbly with Archie at the end. It had us all singing like Madonna…. ‘Who’s that girl’!!!!
Well done Eagles
Up the Eagles 🦅
