Match Report - NMJU9 Falcons - Sunday 12th February

Perfect conditions at Glossopdale this morning as the Falcons lined up against Glossop NE U9 Reds.

Looking at previous games against the opposition this season, the Falcons knew they would have to be switched on from the first whistle and be prepared for a physical game of football.

As the first half began, both teams were cancelling each other out with some big tackles. But chances quickly came at both ends, with both goalkeepers making excellent saves. The pace of the game quickened with both teams taking risks going forward, which pulled players out of position and creating spaces everywhere. After a period of the game played at breakneck speed, the half-time whistle came.

A regroup and the Falcons had noticed the opposition were using certain players and everything was coming down their left hand side. Great to see they knew exactly where Glossop were a threat and see them rally each other ready for the second half.

The second half started exactly how the first ended, played at speed with both teams making some key blocks and tackles to prevent clear chances on goal. Both goalkeepers were called upon again to make crucial saves as a fantastic end to end game really opened up. As the clock ticked away, the Falcons dug in with an extra final push to end the game on a high.

Special mention to today’s captain, Archie, who was fantastic today. Leading by example, he was always making himself available to receive the ball and provided excellent support for his team mates all over the pitch. His performance was rewarded with an excellent first half goal ⚽️

But today’s player of the match was Poppy. An absolute rock in defence, Poppy knew she was in for a tough game, but her quality in winning the ball and confidence in playing out for the back was a joy to watch today. As the game progressed she knew exactly when to push forward and got involved in a number of the Falcons best attacking moves. You were ace today Poppy - well done!

Super proud of the Falcons today. Another positive performance where they all stepped up to the plate against tough opposition. Roll on next week!

⚽️🖤💛⚽️
