Match Report - NMJU9 Falcons - Sunday 15th January
It was the first derby of 2023 for the Falcons as they lined up against the Hawks at Glossopdale.
The Falcons knew they had to be at their best today to compete with the Hawks, who we know are well organised, good on the ball and can punish you in an instant.
As soon as the game started both teams were eager to get early control and it was the Falcons, as they have done in the last few games, creating the first chances on goal. The pressing from the Falcons was excellent, trying not give the opposition time on the ball. As the first half went on, the Hawks grew into the game and showed how dangerous they could be meaning the Falcons had to defend well and work as a team.
A much needed half-time to recharge and the message was clear - the Falcons had to stay focussed and dig deep to win those loose balls if they wanted to create the same number of chances again.
The second half started and both teams picked up where they left off, showing amazing effort and energy creating a fantastic end to end game where both goalkeepers were called into action to make some excellent saves.
As the final whistle came, both teams can safely say they gave 100% today making for a fantastic game for both sets of spectators.
Falcons goals today from Archie ⚽️⚽️⚽️⚽️, Lucas ⚽️ and Angus ⚽️ (again!)
Special mention to today’s captain Alfie, who put in another blockbuster performance in midfield. Knowing the quality of his pass, his shot and his pace could all cause the opposition problems, he dropped deep a lot today to receive the ball and his excellent decision making started a lot of the Falcons attacks.
No player of the match today - instead this went to the whole team, with every single one of them playing their part in an amazing team performance.
Huge well done to the Hawks for playing their part in a brilliant game today. Their never give up attitude was clear to see and it’s games like this that show the future is bright for New Mills Juniors.
Roll on next week!
