Match Report - NMJU9 Falcons - Sunday 8th January

The first game of 2023 and the Falcons were excited to back at Glossopdale as they came up against Whaley Bridge U9’s.

There was no New Year rustiness from the Falcons who started the game on the front foot, with lots of possession and creating a number of chances. The crossbar and post both taking a battering from a relentless period of Falcons attacks, as well as some excellent saves being made by the Whaley Bridge goalkeeper. After a long period of Falcons pressure and half-time around the corner, Whaley Bridge then created a couple of chances showing how clinical they can be in front of goal.

After a regroup at half-time and a couple of changes in position, the message was the same - keep pressing the opposition, talk to each other and use the space down both sides of the pitch.

The second half was more of an even game, with both teams continuing to give 100% creating a brilliant end to end match. The Falcons teamwork and determination was excellent today - never giving up and showing fantastic spirit right until the final whistle.

Falcons goals today: An amazing hat-trick from Archie ⚽️⚽️⚽️ and a first ever competitive goal from Angus ⚽️. Angus has been so close to scoring for a couple of seasons now and the cheer when his goal went in could probably be heard back in New Mills!

Special mention to today’s captain Archie, who was also our player of the match. Captaining the team for the first time, as well as his 3 goals, he played with a great level of maturity today. His decision making was excellent - knowing when to make a pass, when to take players on, tracking back - absolutely spot on today. Well done Archie!

Another great performance today from the Falcons - super proud of them all. Roll on next week!

⚽️🖤💛⚽️
