Match Report Stockport County Ladies U10s HNR vs NMJFC U10 Girls 12/10/2024

This week's game saw our New Mills girls take on a formidable Stockport County side – for the second time in so many weeks. Millie started in goal, with Poppy and Emily forming a rock-solid defense. The trio worked together seamlessly, with excellent communication, well-timed tackles, and blocks, which were instrumental in keeping Stockport's attack at bay.

In midfield, Agnes, Paige, and Jessica provided balance and energy across the pitch. Agnes was superb on the left wing, combining smart passes with great awareness to track back and support the defence when needed. Her ability to push the ball forward in key moments helped keep the pressure on. Jessica, controlling the centre of the pitch, made crucial passes and regularly broke up Stockport’s attempts to launch attacks. Paige, on the right wing, drove the ball forward with intent, often joining the attack while also contributing defensively. Up front, Ava was a constant thorn in Stockport’s side. Her relentless pressing left defenders little time to settle, and she came close to scoring with a powerful shot that rattled the woodwork.

The first half was an evenly matched battle. Stockport had their moments, but Millie was equal to the challenge in goal, particularly when faced with a penalty. With the game finely poised, Millie produced a crucial save to deny Stockport, sending her teammates and supporters into a frenzy.

As the game progressed, Annabella and Ebony were brought into the mix, and their presence was immediately felt. Annabella’s tenacity in midfield helped keep New Mills' attack ticking, while Ebony’s pace and direct running down the wing added a new dimension to the team’s forward play. Large portions of the game were contested in the middle of the park, with both sides trying to break through, but New Mills often had the upper hand.

In the second half, Emily swapped defensive duties for the gloves, stepping into goal and delivering an outstanding performance that caught the attention of Stockport's manager, who even inquired about her transfer fee! Emily’s saves and command of the area kept Stockport frustrated.

Ava, switching to the wing, continued to shine, making dangerous runs from deep and nearly adding to the scoreline with a shot on goal. Millie and Ebony linked up well on the flanks, while Jessica, again in the heart of the action, displayed her silky touches and vision with several neat passes. Agnes' relentless pressing ensured that Stockport had no time to build from the back, whilst Annabella, playing up front, had several key attempts on target, narrowly missing out on a goal.

The breakthrough came when Ebony, quick to react to a ricochet off a defender, pounced and slotted home to give New Mills a goal. Paige was involved in several attacking moves, delivering quality passes and registering a few shots on target. Poppy's tireless running and strength on the ball were crucial, especially in thwarting Stockport's attackers.

In the end, our girls walked away with their heads held high, and although Player of the Week could have gone to several standouts, it was Ava who took the honours for her all-around display. Her energy, pressing, and constant threat up front were key to New Mills' performance.

A brilliant team effort once again today that showed just how much the players have learned and grown together!
