Match Report U6s vs Richmond Napoli U6s – Stockport Powerleague 11/5/24 – 9.50am KO
The U6s had an early start on a beautiful warm day at the Power League, perfect conditions for their second football match of the summer league. After the experience of last week, we wanted them to keep building their confidence that they had from their first game and the squad didn’t disappoint.
We started with Kingsley in goal, Leo on the left, Thomas on the right, Kit at centre back and Jude and Elliott further forward.
Because of the heat we said we would make plenty of substitutes to keep the team hydrated in the heat.
The Mini-Millers had already built on their experience of last week with positional play and tackling the key themes we tried to keep during the game.
Early on Richmond moved the ball around and Leo and Kit did well to stay in position on their early attacks to get their tackles in. They tried to play the ball forward to Jude and Elliott for them to use their pace but Richmond defended well.
Kingsley was starting to be called on more and more in the goal and he didn’t disappoint with his safe hands.
As the heat was starting to have an effect, Lexi, Alistair, Lily and Logan came on to give us a burst of energy and that is what we got.
Logan and Lily getting straight into the tackles and managed to push us forward. Towards the end of the 1st half the Mini-Millers managed to get more of the ball with Lexi and Alistair trying to move the ball around with Logan. We set up a great attack with some passing between the team for Logan to play through Lily for a shot which went just wide. A goal was coming, and it came just before the half, Lily’s industry in the centre of the pitch sending Elliott through to score with a superb finish.
After half-time and some more substitutes, the second half carried on similar to the first. The team were tasked to try and stay in position as best we could with players keeping width but to make sure we worked together. Kit took the gloves and Kingsley showed his composure on the ball with some good passing out from the back.
Richmond though were well organised and the Mini-Millers found it difficult to break them down.
The great team work from the team continued in the second half and they managed to keep Richmond attacks away from the front of the goal with Kit not having many shots on target to deal with. Alistair and Leo took it in turns to marshal the left side well with Thomas and Jude doing so on the right.
Kingsley and Logan were solid in the middle with Lily & Lexi at their industrious best to push us forward. Elliott worked hard to make runs with and without the ball to help the team.
By the end of the game the team had worked so hard in the heat but they had grown hugely since their first game and during this one. Well done Mini-Millers, we look forward to your next adventure and development during the summer league.
