Match Report Whaley Bridge Athletic U10 VS New Mills Juniors U10 Scorpions. 26/01/25

The Scorpions have had a very impressive season and have proved a lot. So, today’s focus was a little bit different, so we mixed it up a bit.

Our defensive players started in an attacking position and vice versa this put the team in a very aggressive position as our defensive line spent minimal time in their own half for the first half of the game.

The whole team were trying to get the ball in the box Callum took a beautiful shot that the keeper got his fingertips to. Will looked very natural on the right wing trying to cross the ball into the box while Rocco K must have forgotten he came to football and not rugby this morning with the way that he was running through people.

Struggled to get that finish today though, but it’s only a matter of time.

Ted played centre back but with where he was on the pitch, he was more like his natural position which showed because he still managed to blast at couple at the keeper.

Leo was in a RWB position, and he played fantastic pushing up the pitch and popping it either up the line or into the box.

Alfie in the LWB role holding the line and slipping a couple of nice passes down to Callum.

Our aggressive play definitely left us vulnerable for counters and it was a very lonely time for our last man Frankie “Cattington” there was a lot of pressure on him today.

Second half we moved back into our more natural position keeping Rocco K up front hoping for one of the screamers we see in training.

Rocco T struggled with a different position this morning but that’s why we do it, to learn. He also made up for it in the second half finishing a lovely set up by Dylan.  Dylan’s strength is growing more and more this season along with his great vision he is becoming a real asset.

Dayvid has become a much more focused player through this season. He can race back to protect the box and he’s getting better at pushing it up the pitch too. Alongside Callum’s composure the ice coldness of these two can really freeze the opposition out.

Really tough game today. The Scorpions had to learn on the job and came across some new challenges.  We’ve also learnt that what can be very exciting for one coach can also be gut wrenching for another. It’s not just our players having life lessons.

Player of the match goes to our captain this week.  Excellent play, Excellent attitude, Excellent captain.

Couldn’t ask for much more than that …but he gave it us anyway with a beautiful goal from a corner kick.
