After a week that saw storm Eowyn threaten to scupper another weekend of football, it was time for our second meeting of the season against the giants of Whaley Bridge, when you talk about testing yourself against 'the big boys' they don't get much bigger than these lot! 😧
We were missing Finn and Myles again this week, they bring quality to our attack so we needed to step up today and the kids didn't disappoint...
Harrison got us off to a great start with an early goal to add to his tally for the season. He took a nasty knock to the ankle late in the 1st half but after a quick rest and the magic sponge, he battled hard in the 2nd half and showed us how tough he is 🏋♂️
Max knew he would have his hands full today, we spoke to him before the game about using his strength and relying on him to get us forward. He stuck to the plan and didn't let their forwards have time on the ball. He scored an absolute screamer in the 2nd half, a powerful free kick just past the half way line found its way into the bottom corner! 🚀
Mia's hat almost took home the player of the match trophy (see match pics) 😅
She brought us plenty of energy when she came on, finding space and keeping their defenders busy, she was up against some big lads but gave as good as she got! 💪🏻
Aiden was back with us this week after missing the last game. We spoke to him about being physical and imposing himself on the opposition. He got stuck in with some tackles and was full of enthusiasm, it was great to see 😁
It can take some kids a while to find their natural position but Ryan has claimed that left wing since day dot! He's got a wicked left foot and in recent games his final ball has improved tonnes, not only going forward but stopping attacks down that side he's becoming an integral part of the team 🦹🏻♂️
We were up against it in patches of the game, especially when Whaley got into a rhythm in the second half but Teddy kept us going with some well timed tackles, not only is he getting rid of the ball quicker he's now picking out the forwards with some impressive through balls. He rallied the troops and showed big heart towards the end 💛
The game was set up nicely for Ned, sporting a fresh trim it was obvious he'd been eating bricks for breakfast... he was solid! Not content with putting in some crunching tackles he quickly realised their biggest threat was their biggest player, so he made it his mission man mark him all around the pitch! If he didn't know about our Ned... he does now 🤣
In a game where our goal was peppered with shot after shot Reuben pulled off some quality saves! He reacted quickly, positioned himself well and rushed the attackers by coming off his line. He can't save them all but he recovers immediately and never let's his head drop! Taking home the player of the match trophy and earning himself an extra hash brown, our player of the match this week went to Reuben, well done Roo 🏆
It was a great display of grit and determination this week against one of the best teams in the league, some quality football was on show and a great example of under 8's football from both teams! We can't wait to go again next week 💛🖤
