New Mills Scorpions U10 v Chinley Athletic - 15/09/24

New Mills Scorpions U10 v Chinley Athletic U10

The Scorpions started our season a week later due to unforeseen circumstances last week, so the excitement and eagerness was at fever pitch for this new team to get going (coaches and players alike). Every single player couldn’t wait to get back playing.

The Scorpions this season line up as: Frankie C, Dayvid, Will, Rocco K, Callum, Dylan, Alfie, Leo, Rocco T and Ted.

This morning was grey and very rainy …. But nobody’s spirits were dampened. It’s also good to say hello again to all the referees / other coaches and the many familiar faces at Glossopdale.

The game kicked off and New Mills were very much on the front foot.

Right from the first whistle… Rocco, Leo, Alfie and Dylan were looking to push forward and press the opposition.  Leo had an early chance that just went wide.

With some great work from Ted to get the ball forward, Leo picked up the ball, took it past the Chinley defender and scored.

This settled the Scorpions, Dylan and Alfie were working tirelessly and winning the ball and pushing forward.  Constant pressure saw a great finish from Rocco 👍🏻

Some great midfield footwork from Callum (who as always was the calmest player on the pitch)… a lovely pass to Leo, who ran into the space…… he flew down the wing, passed across for Rocco to smash home his second.

Quick switch around and Dayvid and Will came on for Ted and Callum.  This gave another dynamic with some great play from Will having the option to play more forward and Dayvid imposing his defensive skills.

More great work from Alfie on the left (500bhp…. He never stops) and Dylan (wand of a left foot) on the right found another pass to Leo… who sprinted forward and slid another pass to Rocco for his third.

The Scorpions had well and truly settled as a team. They were communicating, encouraging each other and playing with immense pride (which in turn makes the coaches proud)

Half time and we had a chat about what was working and how good it was to hear communication between the players.

The second half began just like the first. The Scorpions were pressing high up the pitch and making some excellent tackles.

Alfie had been quietly pushing and pushing all game, and got his reward with a lovely finish.  Not to be outdone, Dylan had been on the left, on the right and after some great tackling picked up a loose ball and knocked it home to open his account for the season.

After more fantastic teamwork from defence right through to attack…. There was another great run forward by Leo outpacing the Chinley defence, who knocked in his second of the day.

Every single player listened, played brilliantly and supported their teammates.

We’ve not had that many games as the scorpions, but today they really stepped up and became a ‘team’.

There was great communication between the players, giving advice and instructions to each other.

Frankie C was focussed throughout, when called upon.. super reliable. Dayvid had a spell in defence and a spell upfront .. excellent all round. Will was super reliable and played brilliantly (that goal is coming 👍🏻) Ted is a strong as an Ox, what a great lad to have in the team.. enthusiasm 100%👍🏻. Callum was fantastic today, some great tackling and passing. Dylan, some great skills and good runs (great goal👍🏻) great team play. Alfie on the other wing .. can run and run all day, ghosting into the box … a great, deserved finish today 👏🏻.  Leo… ran his socks off, assisted at least 3 goals, scored a couple himself and as captain, kept the team motivated throughout.  Rocco… tenacious, tough and had a fantastic game. 3 goals and many more shots that just missed the target or hit the post.

Hopefully a bright season ahead for the Scorpions.

Player of the match today was Leo for all round team play, encouragement, belief and living up to the high standards we’ve set for the season.
