NMJFC U10 Hornets V Reddish NE Blue - 25/1/25

An early start for the lads at Stockport Sports Village on Saturday against the toughest of the Reddish North End teams we have played this season. The 9am kick-off meant we needed to be wide awake and ready for a physical encounter. The Hornets have played in some horrendous weather conditions this season so Storm Eowyn wasn’t going to phase the boys and if anything, made us bright & breezy.

The Hornets looked comfortable and I will say it again, they have found a standard of football that is testing, difficult & challenging for them but they are earning their stripes quickly and this game was no different. Without Albie playing, we needed others in the team to stand up and contribute as we needed a goal threat. I think Frankie misunderstood this instruction ... 🤣

Second half was impressive. The lads backed each other and the belief in the team grew and it was clearly evident for all watching. The determination paid off.

The Hornets were controlling the game now and were testing the opposition goalie. Save after save, the Reddish keeper was having a blinder.

Luckily, we are also blessed with an incredible goalkeeper and Fenn was also on top of his game. Fenn has had to do this more recently as the competition has got stronger and his role in the squad has become vital. One of the saves he made was quite simply out-of-this-world! I don’t know any adults who would have made that save, let alone a 10 year old! Absolutely top class Fenn and arguably the best keeper in these 4 divisions at Woodley!

There was a bit of needle at the end from our opposition who I can only imagine, were surprised by the improvement in The Hornets from our last match back in December. Nothing that will phase our lads and if anything, it’s a backhanded compliment. Last time we played this team, we had a long hard look at ourselves and worked on our desire & passion. It was there in abundance this weekend and you should all be very proud of yourselves. Ambitious, tenacious, tough and confident were just some of the characteristics on show. Keep it up boys, nobody is going to want to play us soon.

POTM went to Fenn 🏆

Plenty of good saves and excellent distribution. This is something he has worked on and it’s paying off now. One unbelievable save that kept us in it!
