New Mills U15s were crowned Fused Cup Final champions after a composed second-half performance saw them secure a 3-0 victory over Brendon bees Juniors in a hard-fought contest.
The match started with tension thick in the air and it showed on the pitch. Both sides struggled to settle with early nerves resulting in few clear cut chances for both sides, the Millers were playing the better football but struggled to break down the Bees back line.
Highlight of the first half was when the Bees had a free kick that looked like it was destined for the top corner until Jack pounced to push wide for a corner. Was much of the same for the rest of the half with the Millers pressing and probing but still not really bothering the bees keeper.
After a goalless first half, the Millers came out after the break with renewed energy and purpose. We spoke at half time and just told the lads to keep going but try and find those final third balls that were used to ring every week.
It wasn’t long before the deadlock was broken, Will Powell getting the ball, spinning his man and thumping an effort from 25 yards straight into the opposition goal, the crowd erupted and that seemed to settle the nerves of everybody involved.
The Millers fitness proved better than the Bees as they started to seem tired.
Soon after a lovely bit of football from the Millers down the left saw the ball fizzed across to finn Ramsey who despatched into the bottom corner.
The Millers were given a free kick from around 25 yards out, jom stepped up and smashed it into the Bees net to put the Millers out of reach who had one hand on the trophy. Last few minutes saw the Bees struggling to get near the Millers and Jom hit the bar with a thunderous bullet again from distance.
The ref blew his whistle for full time which brought jubilant scenes in the stands and on the pitch. Millers are champions.
