Season 3 - Episode 6: A last minute double loan!
It was a morning full of late drama for the New Mills under 9's with a patched up squad and thick fog throwing all sorts of spanners into the works! With 3 players away, 2 last minute withdrawals and a late fitness check for our number 9... we had to bring in reinforcements from the under 8's Vipers! With the game in doubt we managed to put a squad together on 30 minutes notice... phew! Game on ⚽️✅️⚽️
We had Ryan back with us this week and what a game he had! After an early stint at centre back he was back out on the left wing doing what he does best, taking players on and whipping them danger balls into the box! He was heavily involved in the goals today, setting up one and scoring two, his first was a lovely finish and when we needed him to track back and help out his defenders he was right there, ready as ever to get stuck in! Top man Ryan!
A late fitness test was needed for Myles after a text from his Dad but after a quick blast on the calpol he was raring to go! He started on the right of a front 3 where he defended from the front, winning the ball back like
Ryan on the opposite side and driving us forward. We changed the shape after half time, moving him into midfield to give us more control. He got forward and finished off a brilliant move after some excellent build up play from the back, he was awesome today!
Joseph's infectious energy was rubbing off on everyone around him as the team kept on finding that extra 10%! We worked on his balance in training, helping him to understand the importance of where to place your feet when striking the ball and he was loads better this week. He's got patient coaches behind him and team mates that are looking after him. We wanted to manage his minutes at the start of the season so to not overwhelm him but with the squad down to the bare bones we've had no choice but to stick him right into the mix! He's done brilliant again and if your turning up every week with the right attitude and enthusiasm then your getting on!
Big Max was the rocket man again with two brilliant goals, both of them were powerful efforts that left the keeper with no chance! As Macclesfield started to ping them long balls over the top he was waiting for the bounce, getting the ball under control and moving us forward, leaving the opposition attackers in no man's land! He could of gone on his own but he unselfishly played his team mates through on goal and he's really starting to show us another level to his game, we're really happy with Max so far this season, his decision making in particular has been quality, keep it up big man! After scoring the winner in training on Thursday night with a right pinger from distance it was back to doing what he does best for the mullet man, Teddy was organising the team from the back and roaring them on to get forward, he sat deep and asked for the ball and as the attackers closed him down he was pinging balls over the top where our forwards were in acres of space! He didn't score today but everytime someone else did he punched the air in celebration, he was loving it! Reuben was up against the elements as the fog failed to clear in time for kick off but he could just about see his little brother score at the opposite end... more on that in a minute! He was called into action early on when Macclesfield got through on goal but he came out on top with a brilliant sprawl and then pushed a great effort wide! As we tired in the 2nd half it meant he was a lot busier as they piled on the pressure, it took some great efforts to get past him but he never let his head drop!
There's some cracking little teams coming through the New Mills Junior's conveyor belt but if you know about the under 8's Vipers then you know! 🐍 Jake and Craig are cooking up something special down at Ollersett on Tuesday night's and when the game was about to be called off we knew where to look! With only half an hours notice (32 minutes to be precise) we drafted in Kit and Jude (Kitman and JJ to their mates) and I'm not just saying this because one of them is mine but they did amazing! I watch Kit every week, first touch out of his feet, drives you forward down the line and looks for them crosses, simple... but so effective! His first involvement almost ended up with an assist when he sent a wicked ball across their box! "Keep working hard and enjoy yourself" was the message at half time and he never looked out of place, talk about stepping up, top man Kitman 👍🏼
He loves getting the assists but no goals for JJ so far this season with the Viper's... but he's off the mark for "the bigguns" though! I'll let him commentate on this one...
"Max passed it to me and my first touch was pretty good and because I wasn't that far from the goal I thought I might aswell have a shot and it went in" He looked as shocked as I was but celebrated in spectacular fashion! It was a super proud moment for me and his Mum, watching the lads play in the same team, like the Derbyshire De Boers... the New Mills Neville brothers... Yaya and Kolo Worsley 🤣 He watches every match, every training session and every tournament, cheering his big brother on so for that to happen today was pretty special. He ran his little socks off all morning, getting stuck in to tackles and receiving a few himself... he loved every minute of it! He'll be back in the stands next weekend when our players our back, hot chocolate in his hand, cheering us on with his Mum telling her he's hungry every 5 minutes (no idea where he gets that from) but for today he was our player of the match... big dude Jude 🏆
We can't fault these kids so far this season but last week and especially today they have outdone themselves! Some of them played almost a full hour again, some even poorly! Against a very good team who took full advantage of our tiredness in the 2nd half we stuck together and just wouldn't give up! 3 things you can't teach in kids football... desire, resilience and character... luckily for us this team is full of it!! 💛🖤
