Another week and another chance for our mini-millers to showcase their skills, their teamwork and most importantly their love of the beautiful game.
This week we would again face new opponents in Reddish North End Reds, but as always New Mills were ready no matter who the opposition would be.
This week, Kit took the captain’s armband and Thomas would take his turn in goal for the second half. We started with Kingsley in goal for the first half with Thomas and Alistair as our wide wing-backs and Logan playing in defence.
Elliott and Jude would play further forward hoping to put pressure on Reddish’s defence.
Our game-changers this week would be Leo, Kit and Lily who were all chomping at the bit to make the difference.
The game started and the great football the team had been playing in the last few weeks continued.
Elliott and Jude were powering New Mills up the field, linking up well with Thomas and Alistair either side. Both wing-backs were trying to play passes into the forward players with Jude and Elliott looking to play wide when the space was available.
Logan kept things organised and tight at the back with Kingsley staying alert for any Reddish attack.
We Both teams were sizing each other up without over-committing, but eventually more shots started to get through with Jude creating chances for Elliott to finish. Alistair and Thomas were also pushing up to get involved in attacks as well. But the mini-millers don’t just focus on attack, they are quick to stream back to support the team and keep Reddish at bay.
Logan got at the Reddish attackers to make sure he won the ball or didn’t allow clean strikes. Elliott not only was deadly going forward, but superb in tracking back to help his team.
After an action packed first quarter, our game-changers were brought on to make their difference. Kit slotted into defence for Logan, Lily for Jude and Leo for Alistair. The transition was seamless which shows the strength of the team. No matter who plays, the team all give 100% for each other.
Kit maintained Logan’s good work and even got a chance from a free-kick which hit the side-netting. Leo pushed hard down the right, setting up attacks and driving forward with his dribbling ability. Lily set about the opponents with relentless energy. She has the tenacity of a young Lauren Hemp and this week it was on show again.
Reddish struggled to keep up with the mini-millers attacks with superb passing and moving but before every knew, it was half-time.
Chance to have a break and get some fluids, we encouraged the mini-millers to keep the great work going.
Maintain the terrific effort of working hard and continuing believing in themselves and each other. Thomas got his gloves and goalkeeper top on ready to rumble for the second half.
Kingsley came out of goal slotting in at centre back determined to showcase his ability with the ball. If the first half was a tight football battle, the second half was a relentless feast of football. This half both teams went at full speed to do everything for each other. Every player this week showcased what they have been practicing in training. The passing was superb, tackling, supporting each other, shooting, dribbling. This was a tremendous performance and one the whole team was super proud of by full time. At the full time whistle every player from both teams left the pitch with a huge smile.
Each week we develop our skills but we learn something new. This week, the lessons were simple, no matter what happens we keep working hard for each other. We support and encourage as always and if mistakes are made, we encourage as we always do and we learn and we grow as footballers and more importantly, people.
Great work mini-millers we love watching you every week.
