For one reason or another there seems to have been something stopping this local Derby from happening. We haven’t met since the start of the season. Now we meet each other again near the end of the season. We know how much the Scorpions have grown since they last met and we have heard rumours on how well Hayfield have been doing.
The weather held up its end of the bargain. A blaze from the bright sun and some blistering wind at the same time. The Scorpions started off on the offence. The sun was against them but the wind was on their side.
Our defence was playing higher up the pitch. Can be an opening for a counter if the opposition can get through but we are strong at the back and we started to see that long shots were a strong choice. But our Cat at the back loves to catch a long shot.
A lot of battling happening in the middle of the pitch saw Rocco make a run and managed to pop one in the back of then net. ⚽️
Unfortunately, the lead wasn’t something that boosted the team’s confidence. We saw a lot of panicking kicking the ball in any direction to get rid of it. Defending became an objective the players put on themselves. Frustration was getting the better of us a talk was needed.
Captain Leo came off the pitch for Alfie to be more aggressive. The coaches and captain spoke about the need to play “our” game. Not get frustrated and to not panic. While this was happening Rocco was on the hunt for another goal. Which sadly lead to him taking a screamer to the face. Our Rocco is made of strong stuff and when he needs to come off the pitch, that was a concern.
Captain Leo was to lead from a strikers position. Just when he was getting into the swing of things the half time whistle went.
Team talk was “play your football”, “stop panicking” and then let the players talk about the game.
2nd half and the boys came out with the blaze behind them. More determined to get the ball more determined to get the goals and this fire was lead by our captain.⚽️⚽️
Dylan was running through players like they weren’t there.
Alfie’s was back to his aggressive self taking on the biggest player on the pitch.
Ted was in his element running circles around his school mates and smashing the ball towards the net.
Callum had a tough job today but he didn’t let his team down. Showing not only his composure but his strength. Solid performance today.
Will is becoming known as Mr reliable always covering the back and always protecting the box. Dayvd did a great job at the back and was very close to getting the finish up front as well.
PoTM match goes to our GK lots of shots saved, parried or cleared away. Great movement on the pitch coming away from his line.
