Match Report NMJFC U 9 Hornets v Bees - 21/01/24

New Mills ‘Derby Day’ 💛🖤⚽️

A Midday Kick-Off, No Snow, The Temperature Was Above Zero, What more could you ask for in Glossop in January?!

Apparently there had been a storm brewing and it was very windy and unpleasant and the rain was trying to get involved too!

I think The Hornets dodged the biggest ‘Storm’ at Glossopdale…….. The Bees! What a great team they are becoming and they were fired up & ready to get one over a Hornets team that started sluggish and struggled with the weather conditions much more than our opponents. The energy levels were insane and it was end-to-end with both teams having early chances but both defences were refusing to allow any of their mates on the other team to get an early advantage – It was a classic derby!

In the Bees net, Stan-The-Man once again stood up to everything that was thrown at him and even took a hit in his attempt to preserve his clean sheet. Stanley returned and had a fantastic game but the Hornets had their noses in front courtesy of Albie⚽️ At the back, Oliver L was now winning every tackle and needed to protect our goal.

It was still a very scrappy affair, The Hornets were chasing the same ball and they had stopped communicating with each other. Communication is something we’ve actively tried to encourage this season and as we prepared our Half-Time chat, Oliver B⚽️ hit the back of the net with a great finish and we could now have a good talk with the team about ‘Going Back To Basics’.

The Bees had rattled us and some of passing from Millie & Brooke was fantastic and with Charlie competing for every challenge,

The Bees are possibly the toughest test we have faced this season. Luckily, Finners was taking no prisoners and The Hornets last man was clearing everything. Ronan The Rocket⚽️ then registered a goal but more impressively was the way he squared the ball to Ollie B⚽️ afterwards and The Hornets were showing some dominance.

The Bees came back again and once again it was Millie & Brooke leading their charge. Albie manged to see our defenders had all gone upfront and sprinted back to clear a certain goal & Fenn produced a fantastic save to keep Brooke out. It was definitely an advantage to be able to have the benefit of a couple of subs and due to the fact we were playing 6v6 (instead of 7v7 – Like we normally do) the kids on both teams became tired.

The Hornets went up a gear and Frankie⚽️ & Albie⚽️ found the net before Oliver B⚽️ manged to put the icing on the cake & complete his Hat-Trick!

Ollie M has been in fine scoring form with a couple of Hat-Tricks under his belt recently but today he had to do a job for the team and worked back harder than he ever has before.

A proper battle ended with smiles and hand shakes from all involved. Both New Mills teams put on a fantastic display of U9’s footie and if ever we needed reassurance that having 3 teams at this age group & more game time for all was the way forward – THIS WAS IT!

Player Of the Match went to Finley 🏆 who was as solid as ever at the back . . . Our Rock!

 💛🖤⚽️
