Match Report NMJFC U10 Girls vs – Reddish North End U10 Girls Maroon 21/09/2024

The first game of the season saw New Mills U10 Girls kick off in style with a 7-a-side league match, featuring a fantastic debut performance from their newest player, Poppy.

The team delivered a brilliant display of football that left fans excited for the season ahead.

The starting line-up featured Annabella in goal, Poppy leading the attack as striker, and Ebony and Seren playing on the wings. Paige took up the central midfield position, while Agnes and Millie held down the defence.

From the whistle, New Mills dominated possession and took control of the game. Ebony and Millie worked tirelessly down the right wing, pushing the ball forward and creating opportunities. Agnes was rock solid in defence, with some impressive tackles, while Poppy’s pace and determination kept the opposition's back line under constant pressure. Seren linked up play beautifully, moving the ball up the field with confidence.

New Mills' early pressure paid off with a free kick, superbly taken by Paige, only for the opposition goalkeeper to follow with a great save.

However, it wasn’t long before New Mills found the back of the net. After Ebony unleashed a powerful strike, Paige pounced on the rebound, slotting the ball home to give her team a deserved lead.

The introduction of Emily and our match captain Ava brought fresh energy to the team. Ava impressed with her commanding tackles and surging runs from defence, while Emily's relentless work rate and skill were on full display. Emily’s brilliant run set up New Mills’ second goal, passing to Ebony, who coolly finished with precision.

New Mills’ confidence grew as they peppered the opposition goal. Both Ebony and Emily struck the post, while Annabella’s excellent work as a sweeper keeper ensured the opposition had little joy in attack.

The second half saw Paige take over in goal, although like Annabella before her, she had little to do thanks to the team’s superb defensive work. Annabella and Poppy switched to defence, with Ava and Emily pushing forward on the wings. Ebony continued to cause problems up front with some fantastic shots, twice hitting the post.

Millie and Emily were tireless in midfield, with Emily producing two crucial last-ditch tackles that prevented goal opportunities from our opponents. Poppy’s energy and determination shone through as she battled for every ball, and Seren, Ava, and Agnes all contributed with strong runs and attempts on goal. Annabella, meanwhile, was a midfield dynamo, breaking up play and driving the team forward.

While many players were in contention for Player of the Week, Emily earned the accolade for her hard work, positive attitude, and standout performance both in attack and defence.

As the RNE U10 Maroons coach commented after the match, “That today is what this league is all about… A great game for both teams. Thank you so much.”

New Mills U10s girls can be proud of their performance, and this strong start to the season promises plenty more excitement to come!
