Match report NMJFC U14s - 01/10/23
New mills u14s v chinley u14s.
The Millers returned to the rec this week to host local rivals Chinley. A game that in previous seasons has seen Chinley take most points when we play.
We were looking froward to it as wanted to see how much we’ve improved from last season. After a 6-0 mauling last week to Whaley the Millers were keen to get our start to the season back on track.
Only a 10 minute warm up before the game as game on before and the weather was absolutely horrific for the full game.
The game kicked off and the Millers went straight up the pitch and could have been 1-0 up in the first minutes.
The Millers pegged Chinley back in their own half and continued to make chances.
Wasn’t long before the deadlock was broken and then just like the weather…the floodgates opened.
The boys were playing some lovely football that they’ve been working on in training. Passing, moving and playing 1-2s.
It was good for all the parents and coaches to watch.
Chinley had the rare moments in the New Mills half but never really tested the Millers keeper.
Was all one way traffic in the first half and the referee blew his whistle with the score at 8-0 to give us all a chance to hide under a tree for a team talk.
The 2nd half was a bit different, maybe the boys took their foot off the gas, as we had to have a play around with positions trying people in different roles.
Chinley had a couple of efforts and grabbed themselves a goal, the lads dug in again and managed to add another couple.
All in all a great team performance today and a feast of goals and good football for all spectators to watch.
The weather was absolutely grim but the football was delightful to see. Well done boys.
Go again next week away to another local rival in High Lane.
Final score 10-1
