The girls arrived in great spirits for this tough away fixture after having a great start to their season.
The girls made a strong start to the game with Millie excellent with her distribution and coming off her line bravely. Grace, Lilly, Esme and Izzy all strong in the tackle and using the ball really well.
Annie and Mia bossed midfield and fed the ball into Isla and Alissa at every opportunity. Nieve and Elsie worked the opposition defence hard winning the ball back and setting up several good attacks for the team.
Some what against the run of play Tytherington opened the scoring with goal of real quality after long range shot crashed in off the bar.
The Millers responded quickly forcing several good saves from the Tythy keeper before Nieve converted a penalty to level the score. The millers started to control the game and after sustained pressure won a corner which Mia scored directly from with a superb delivery. This was no more than the Millers deserved and they were now on top. Taylor came on to partner Nieve upfront and helped to maintain the energy in the attacking play.
Clever through balls from both Annie and Mia nearly saw Alissa get herself on the score sheet and Isla working tirelessly for the team to win the ball back and pass with accuracy and intent. The half time whistle blew with the Millers 2-1 ahead.
Brooke was added at half time to the left with Isla taking a well deserved rest and Alissa moving to the right. The Millers stayed on top and after several good crosses from the right from both Annie and Alissa a ball fell to Taylor who hit it early and the keeper could only parry it away as Nieve arrived on cue to calmly slot home for a 3-1 lead.
The Millers created further chances but the fourth goal eluded them. Game finishers entered the Fray as Isabella came on for Nieve up top and worked hard for the team to close down the Tythy defence with Taylor.
Ruby came on at the back to help Lilly control the back line and give Esme a well deserved breather. The girls continued to push for the fourth but it was Tythy who scored the next goal on a counter attack where the ball just managed to evade Millie’s grasp so at 3-2 the pressure was really on for the last minutes of the game. Elsie came on for Mia to try and keep the Tythy team at bay.
Thankfully the Millers created further chances with Brooke a real threat on the left delivering good crosses and working her full back hard. The moment of the game arrived as Annie played Taylor through on the inside right channel she took a touch to steady herself then calmly stroked the ball home for the fourth goal and her first goal in her first match as outfielder player.
The girls were resolute for the remainder of the game and were unlucky not to add their goal tally.
The physicality and passion shown by the girls today was a joy to watch.
Commitment, teamwork, dedication and attitude will take you a long way and these girls have it abundance.
Special mentions today for Taylor our keeper playing outfield for the first time.
Also Millie, Esme, Elsie and Brooke for stepping up to help the team and playing with superb bravery against a strong Tythy team.
The coaches said after the game “ when these girls click they click, we are super proud of the whole team”
Girl of the game was awarded to the team by the coach because the whole team played their part in the result. 👏👏👏
