Match report NMJFC U8 Hornets V Buxton Young Bucks Blues - 13/11/22
A perfect sunny Sunday at Glossopdale for this ever improving group! Once again we were up against another new team but this with a slight difference…. They are Buxton Young Bucks Blues but they looked very much like SK Vipers from last year and we just couldn’t wait to test ourselves against very familiar opposition.
It was Remembrance Sunday and I absolutely love the way our kids honoured the period of silence with their heads bowed-down as they showed total respect for the occasion.
Now chomping at the bit, the team wanted to get playing and Albie offered to go in goal for the first half. A wise decision for somebody who’s head had been recently glued back together! Very brave and there was no way Albie was going to miss the match but this did allow to assess how he was going to get on. Well done Albie, you were great!
Then it was game time and The Hornets were like greyhounds in the traps waiting for the hare to come running! All the pre-match formalities had left them like coiled springs and we had a very unusual start to the match. Loads of energy and good intentions but the football had become a Hot-Potato and nobody seemed to want to keep it. Then something we haven’t seen before at this age-group . . . . We had conceded a penalty! There was nothing Albie could do in goal to stop the spot-kick and The Hornets found themselves in uncharted territory and needed some grit & determination to over-come the early set-back.
Finley & Frankie were great at the back and when Frankie found Oliver B with wonderful pass, The Hornets were back in the game. Oliver B wasn’t finished there. The Millers were getting better by the minute and the referees fondness of the whistle enabled Ronan The Rocket the opportunity to show us all, once again - the magic he contains in that left-boot of his! Unbelievable free-kick Ronnie!
Rocket took the gloves for the second-half. He has been listening to Phil in training and played much higher up the pitch and became much more like a sweeper-keeper and this helped The Hornets. Albie, Oliver L & Ollie M made great impact on the game in the second-half. Another penalty was given…. But this time it was in our favour and Frankie found the back of the net. Ollie M was working hard tracking back and also getting involved with the forward play. Jessica did her best to impact the game and is becoming much more involved.
I don’t know what they had in the ‘The Lillis House-Hold’ for breakfast on Sunday but it must have been Italian!?!? Oliver L had somehow turned into Paolo Maldini and every single one of us present this weekend watched a reassuringly confident presence take charge of the game. Some of the tackles he won were outrageous! This type of performance has been coming from Oliver L and he deservedly got Player of The Match. Keep it Oliver L!
Oliver B got a stroke of luck towards the end of the game with a fortunate deflection but if you’re not in the right places you don’t tend to get that luck. Great forward play from our No. 9! At he final whistle was greeted by smiles on everyone’s faces. Keep it up Hornets – we needed to dig-deep today and you did it!
Special mention to both our goalkeepers – Albie 1st half & Ronan 2nd half. Both outstanding.
