Match report NMJFC U9 Eagles v Chapel Yellows

Match report NMJU9 Eagles v Chapel Yellows

Sunday 2nd April

The sun shone on everybody over at Glossopdale as we entertained the yellows of Chapel in the final match of the league season before we take part in cup final day at the Silverlands later in the month.

We have had some close matches with Chapel Yellows this season but as always we give them the upmost respect as we know we are always in for a very tough match.

From a personal and team point of view, everyone at the Eagles would like to send condolences to all that are and will be affected by the tragic news that came out of Chapel in recent weeks. I only knew Paul since coming in as coach of this team some 18 months ago, and he was always welcoming to us all, and always had time for a chat.

The Eagles were at full strength for this match so it was a tough decision to select a team today as we tried to end the season with a victory. Something which has been very hard to come by this season.

Some team orders and instructions before the match was taken in by all and this week it seemed to have a positive effect on the players.

They started off well, passing and moving and constantly getting tackles in on the Chapel players. We made it very tough on Chapel as they tried to get forward and left them with scraps in front of goal which were either cleared or put out of harms way.

One attack from Chapel didn’t quite get the usual treatment and somehow found it’s way past Williams hands and into the net.

The Eagles kept playing and despite some strong tackles by Chapel found a friend of ours in the way when Archie cut in from the left and hit a post. Something which has been a constant from this season……..those pesky posts!!!!

Sami dazzled at times with his new found silky skills as he danced down the wing and somehow left a defender in his wake. Obviously he gets that from his dad!!!

In the second half we stuck to the game plan and carried on playing the same way. Hayden replacing William in goal, Archie a constant threat going forward and Sami and Robbie just lacking that yard of pace to get us in on goal . Some great play on the attack numerous times but they couldn’t quite get that all elusive shot on goal.

Chapel kept coming though and some strong tackling saw a couple of Eagles end the match with knocks.

The Eagles came away from the match knowing they had given their all and what a performance it was.

We talked about it at the start to try and end the season with a massive performance and they certainly did. A great game from all.

From a result point of view it hasn’t been a great season, but in recent weeks the players have started to listen to orders and put everything into place. Hopefully they can give one final hoorah this season and end it in style in a couple of weeks up in Buxton.

Special mentions today goes to Frankie, who constantly runs and is the engine of the team at times. Archie who kept going despite the constant tackles that seem to rain in on him at times. Gives as good as he gets and is always a threat going forward, and Jacob, who just recently has been much improved from earlier in the season. Some great defending today, even when he was left as the last defender. Not much got past him today.

Todays player of the match went to Nathan. Will play wherever we ask him to and never moans about it. Always puts a decent in a shift on the pitch, and today he was like a hoover as he hoovered everything up at the back!!

A great performance from him, as he does every week and an all round joy to coach.

Well done Eagles
