New Mills u12 v Whaley Bridge u12
Lovely morning for a gem of football today as we were up against a Whaley side that previously took the bragging rights, so we had an idea what we were up against.
The Millers started well, considering the lost hour in bed and with it being an early kick off. The ball was back and forth for the first 5 mins. The Millers were good on the ball, but didn’t really seem to trouble the Whaley keeper. We tried to focus on tackling at training a bit this week and it showed today, everybody being strong. It was a physical game and it was good to see everybody giving 110%.
Whaley took the lead with a well finished halfway through the first half and then another quite quickly.
2-0 down with 10 mins left of the first half, sometimes our heads go down if we go behind but today was completely the opposite, we kept going and created a few chances before Archie rippled the back of the net just before ref blew for half time.
The 2nd half was even better, Whaley scored another 2 goals from a couple of mistakes by us but then the Millers really came to life, playing good football and winning the ball back whenever we lost it. We were confident all over the pitch and got our reward when Jom broke free to fire another in for the Millers. Archie then got his 2nd, and Jom added another with about 5 mins to go. The Whaley keeper made a couple of brilliant saves to keep them in the game and likewise Jack for us with nearly the last kick of the game tipped a low drive on to his post and smothered it well. Final whistle went with both teams sharing the points. 👏🏻👏🏻
Was brilliant to watch this morning, the effort and work rate from everybody was good to see. The 2nd half was one of the best we’ve played in to come back from 4-1 down and could easily of been more, but the lads dug in and got what they deserved. 👏🏻👏🏻
