New Mills U13s vs Richmond
(1/4 final League cup)
On the back of beating Richmond in the league in their last game, The Millers welcomed them to the home of Football, The Rec.
The early pressure went to the away side who forced a great save from Logan, to stop Richmond gaining the advantage.
Once The Millers settled it wasn’t long until they broke the deadlock. Gene (the monkey) played a ball down the left flank, for Ruben to nutmeg one lad and beat another, he then rolled the ball to the feet of the “Birthday boy” Harvey who dropped his shoulder, beat his man and hit a deliciously looping ball over the keeper from quite some distance 1-0 to the home side.
2 minuets later Tom won the ball back in the centre of the field, and played then to Max on the right wing. Max then danced his way into the box to be brought down by 3 Richmond defenders, I’m sure that if VAR would have been present The Millers would have had a penalty. Despite it looking a “stone wall” penalty, the referee had a different view and decided to give a corner.
As the half went on the game became more open. Richmond went in search of an equaliser, but couldn’t break down the solid defensive wall of Alex, Nate, Luke & Gene. The generals in midfield Tom, William & Declan worked tirelessly throughout the half to ensure the Millers went into the break with their goal advantage.
New mills made a few changes at half time to freshened things up and give one or two lads a breather, and to give them the chance to calm down after one or two frustrating decisions.
Alfie & Matheus got themselves into the game early into the 2nd half, showing some great energy and desire, however it was the other substitute who stole the show.
The millers work rate and high press allowed them to apply some early pressure onto the away team, Ruben received the ball and whipped it into the penalty area for Max to lay up the on running LUCA MORGAN to tap the ball into the net at the back post for his 1st goal of the season...2-0 The Millers.
The players and the spectators reaction to this goal was enough to make most people cry with joys of happiness (this is why we all love the beautiful game so much). Showing the TEAM ethic and togetherness that this talented bunch of lads are building.
With the game at 2-0, Richmond tried their best to get back into the game, and found some joy with 5 mins to go when one of the millers defenders impeded the ball and gave away a penalty kick. The ball was dispatched into the bottom corner... 2-1.
With 2 minutes left on the clock New mills went looking for a third goal to put this cup tie to bed, and they was rewarded when Max found the back of the net from a corner...3-1 New Mills Juniors.
