New Mills U18’s produced a magnificent display in their first game for more than six weeks in dismantling a Bollington Jaguars side a year older and (due to the Metro league divisional placements) sitting two divisions higher in the league system.
The 3G pitch suited The Millers slick passing game, with the likes of Harry Wyatt and Jake Robinson tailor-made for the artificial surface and they were quick out of the traps, Frank Woodrow, Nathan Lees, Alex Duncan and Jake Brooks all going close early on.
The Bollington goalkeeper was in inspired form, producing several top class saves to keep the scores level before the deadlock was finally broken on the half hour mark. A double substitution two minutes prior proved crucial as the addition of Kit Maddox and Joel Boyes forced the home team back, and it was from Boyes shot that Jake Brooks cleverly turned in the opener.
Harvey Smith was forced off with injury, replaced by Adam Hooper, after an impressive 35 minutes but it made no difference as The Millers remained in complete control. Just before half-time Alex Duncan, suffering no hangover after a lengthy period of inactivity, turned home the second from close range and then almost immediately Lees scampered clear on the left to cross for Brooks to make it three.
George Pottage was introduced at half time in place of Kai Harman as The Millers looked at a slightly different shape to the team, but the changes made no difference to the quality on show. Two minutes into the second period Alex Capraro, who produced a faultless 90 minutes, sent Brooks clear on goal to complete his hat-trick and effectively end the contest. Capraro was the provider again five minutes later as Harry Lomakin-Rogers fired in to, and then Brooks set up the same player to make it six just before the hour mark. It had been a frustrating afternoon for Frank Woodrow, hitting the woodwork in the first half, before seeing the keeper thwart him twice, but his hard work paid off as he bagged twice late on to take him onto seven goals for the season. Captain Noah Smith was frustrated to concede towards the end and lose his clean sheet, but regardless it was still a fabulous day for his team as they progressed through to the next round of the cup. Scoring eight goals in a game for the third match in succession.
