Match report NMJFC Under 9s Falcons - 29/01/23
The Falcons had a huge test today as they came up against Chapel Town U9 Blues at Glossopdale.
After some great performances over the past few weeks, this was a real chance to show how far the team have come against arguably the best team in the league.
Kick-off was upon us and the Falcons knew they had to raise the bar and be switched on from the first whistle, but a slow start worked in the oppositions favour and the Falcons were punished with a succession of Chapel attacks.
The Falcons were struggling to get control of the ball, but were starting to get some good tackles in to break up Chapel’s play which was giving the team a bit more confidence.
Half-time was needed. The Falcons regrouped, reset and the message was clear - more energy, better communication and win those loose balls.
The second half started and the Falcons looked more like their usual selves. More desire and determination, which led to more chances being created and the Chapel goalkeeper making some excellent saves. The momentum continued in the Falcons favour and the last 10 minutes were camped in the oppositions half. This stirred the team and the spectators making for a frantic finish to the game.
In the end, the Falcons can be proud of themselves today. They showed they’ve got what it takes to match the best team in the league and if they can replicate the last period of the game next time around, then they’ll be a match for anyone.
Two fantastic goals for the Falcons today from Alfie ⚽️ and Archie ⚽️.
Special mention to todays captain Henry. Another member of the team to come on leaps and bounds this season. Henry was a menace up front in the first half, making some great tackles and relentless pressing from the front. This continued in the second half where he was unlucky not to score.
Todays player of the match went to Poppy. During a tough first half, Poppy’s leadership was clear to see. With her excellent communication she dictated the play from the back and her distribution started a number of the Falcons attacks. During the last stages of the game, she drove the team on and she committed herself further up the pitch, pinning the opposition back in their half. Another awesome performance today Poppy - well done.
Super proud of every single Falcon today - they were amazing. Roll on next week!
