Match report New Mills Bees U9 vs Tintwistle Diamonds U9 - 01/10/23

What a stark contrast weather-wise from the first game of the season… A grey, rainy late morning kick off for the Bees against Tintwistle. A team we met a few times last season where we always had a strong competitive game.

Today we welcomed our newest player, Millie.  I’m sure Millie won’t mind me saying she was a little nervous before kick off… but as soon as we got going, those nerves didn’t last long.

Today the Bees lined up with: Stanley in goal, William and Rocco at the back, Brooke, Leo and Millie across the midfield and Charlie upfront.  Once again James R (our under 8 go-to player) was on hand to bolster the Bees.

Tintwistle started the faster of the 2 teams and took an early lead, the Bees took a little longer to get going in the first half.  There was some good passing between Millie, Brooke and Leo to try and get the Bees moving forward, but all the action was mostly in the Bees half.

Stanley was on hand to stop some point blank shots and the defensive duo of William and Rocco had their work cut out.

Tintwistle were relentless in their pressure and added a few more goals… when the Bees did manage a counter attack, they couldn’t quite make the shots count with them either going agonisingly wide or not strong enough to test the keeper.

A tactical sub before half time saw James R come on and do a stellar job at the back keeping the Tintwistle players at bay.

A quick half time pep talk from Coach Rick in the pouring rain helped to raise the Bees spirits.

The second half kicked off and the Bees were much more in the game from the off.  Some lovely passing from the back saw Millie get the ball and take on a couple of the opposition,  then ….*BOOM* a debut goal! fantastic play.  As the half settled Millie, Brooke and Leo were more involved trying to get the ball forward to Rocco and Charlie.  William was having some good battles trying to get the ball out to the wingers and James was on hand to snub out the Tintwistle attack by intercepting, tackling and closing them down.

Lots of positives from the Bees today and a fantastic debut for Millie.

Player of the match was a close call, James Robinson (playing above his age group) and Millie, both shone brightly for the Bees today.

Quick coaches chat and POTM was awarded to Millie, by the end of the game it was like she’d been playing with the team for weeks.  Once everyone gets to know each other better, it’s going to be even more exciting and the Bees will push on.
