Match Report NMJFC U10 BLACKS s V Whaley U10s - 07/01/24

It was great to finally be back at Glossopdale for the first time in 2024! The team ended 2023 brightly and we were now against a tough opponent today in Whaley Bridge.

We remembered  how good this team was from our previous encounter so we knew we had to be at our best today  and every single one of them did just that. After such a long break over the Xmas period, we anticipated tired legs today and with the absence of key players Ella Harley and Oliver  we opted to draft in a couple from the u9s, Ronan and Oliver, who rose to the challenge and without question relished the opportunity to represent the Millers.

The game started at a fast pace with end to end action.

Our captain of the day was our keeper, James, was called upon in the early stages of the game to make an absolute crucial  save denying the Whaley forward who found himself one on one with our ever improving keeper who prevented a certain goal. Well done James.

Almost instantly after this chance and against the run of play, the Millers had a corner . Liam our rock from the back converted a beautiful execution towards the goal mouth which found Bobby in a great position to volley home from close range giving their keeper no chance straight in the top bins. Awesome stuff !

Bobby's 1st season and so pleased the 1st goal of 2024 goes to you, thoroughly deserved. 👏🏻

After some solid defending from Shea, the ball fell into Joes path,  whom worked tiredlessly in midfield, he managed to feed the ball through  causing pressure on their back line, Bobby somehow manged to keep the ball in play then played the ball through to our goal machine, Archie, after some silky dribbling from him he managed to find Kian and from just inside the box, he fired a shot to the bottom left corner, giving the Whaley goal keeper no chance, once again superb strike Kian.

Whaley didn't let this affect their performance  and was a constant threat and crating chances against our backline today with our ever reliable Liam and Shea having to be on their toes.

Shea was up for it today and stopped  numerous attacks well done.

After a frantic start to match lots of changes were required to keep the energy levels high the introduction of Ronan and Oliver who really  helped keep the pressure going into half time. Oliver slotted in perfectly at the back with Liam (St Georges boys) and didn't put a foot wrong, putting some tough tackles in clearly, unphased by the age difference.  Neither of these u9 boys looked out of place.

2nd half started  and the Millers continued  in the same manner with lots of pressure and some excellent passing, all coming from the back from Liam who really didn't put a foot wrong.

With Kian following on from his goal which gave him a lift was all over the pitch putting in lots of effort. After more defending from Shea and Bobby, the ball fell to Kian in the middle of the park, he then managed to play a great long range pass into our striker, Archie, who managed to round his man and fire home from long range to top left, yet again all we could do was admire. Archie was a menace all game, hitting the post twice and coming close several  times, unfortunately late on he came off injured and we wish him a speedy recovery.

Ronan "the Rocket" a delight to coach always plays with a smile he has helped us in the past, and we always know how effective and reliable he can be, has a knack of being in the right place at the right time. After a great bit of initiative from Liam who took a quick thrown  the ball fell kindly to the left foot of Ronan and need I say anymore, you blink and you miss it, thunderous strike to the top corner.

All myself and Dan ask Is for, is maximum effort and to play with a smile. Determined to make it hard today, the defending really was incredible  with also a special mention to Oliver l who threw himself at a shot to block a shot from the opposition that was most certain goal bound showed a courageous and fearless attitude.

Overall this team is getting better each week as coaches we could not be happier.

Man of the match was tough today as they were all great but Kian picked it up. Well done kian!
