Today’s match set out to be a very close and competitive game, with both teams showing plenty of determination.
In goal, Millie delivered an excellent display, full of confidence and composure. She came out bravely to claim the ball when needed and made a number of strong, important saves that kept our girls in the game.
Just as importantly, she showed great awareness, knowing when to let the ball run for a goal kick rather than taking unnecessary risks. Her distribution was a real asset too, with powerful and accurate drop kicks helping to launch attacks from the back.
In defence, Poppy J and Martha formed a solid and reliable partnership.
Playing on the left, Poppy J was particularly impressive with her strength on the ball, holding it up well and never looking fazed even when under pressure from opposition players. She really got stuck in and helped settle things at the back.
Alongside her, Martha did a great job clearing danger but also showed confidence in possession by occasionally driving down the wing or playing the ball into the centre, which helped push our girls forward.
Stevie took on a key role in defensive midfield and carried it out brilliantly, consistently breaking up the opposition’s play and helping to protect the back line. Further forward, Ava on the left and Annabella on the right both worked tirelessly, applying pressure with attacking runs, while also tracking back to support the defence whenever needed.
Leading the line, Florence showed good footwork and confidence on the ball, managing to get a shot away on goal and keeping the opposition defence busy.
As the game progressed, Jessica, Poppy D and Paige were introduced, and all made a positive impact. Jessica slotted into the middle and showed great energy, working hard, making strong runs and getting stuck in for the team. Poppy D also impressed with her effort and determination, contributing well and showing a real team-first attitude.
Paige made a big difference up front, testing the opposition goalkeeper on a couple of occasions. Her persistence paid off with a well-taken goal that came from a brilliant kick out by Millie, turning defence into attack in an instant and finishing confidently to find the back of the net.
Overall, it was a strong team performance in a closely contested match, but the Player of the Week award rightly went to Millie. Her confidence, decision-making and shot-stopping ability stood out throughout the game, and it was clear how much assurance she gave to the team from the back. Her performance was so impressive that even the opposition recognised it, awarding her their Player of the Week as well – a testament to just how well she played. Well done Millie! Well done girls!
