Match Report NMJFC U13 girls vs Marple - 25/01/26

The previous two fixtures had seen the Millers narrowly lose close contests. The girls were keen to get back to winning ways however a slow start meant they were 1-0 down in the first five minutes

Slowly the girls settled and started to play the better football. Brooke came close with a few long range efforts and Emily was unlucky when the keeper made a some saves. On the wing Bella had a great first half and caused problems for the full back.

When called upon the defence stood firm against the good opposition forwards. Neve, Ella and Esmee, with Isla sitting in front of them ensured it remained 1-0 at half time

“Much of the same and the goals will come” was the message at half time.

Within a couple of minutes of the break the Millers turned it around and were 2-1 up. Lily scored both with the first one coming from excellent play by Elsie. Not long later and it was three with Lily grabbing a hattrick. Marple were clearly struggling with her pace

From nowhere Marple scored to make it 3-2 and for the next five minutes we were under a bit of pressure. The defence and keeper stood firm though; Mille, Neve & Evie made sure we weren’t going to concede another. In midfield Florence and Lucie added some control and good play.

The Millers soon settled and Lily showed her class in front of goal with two more excellent finishes

Today was a proper team effort. All of the quad performed to a high standard.

Final score New Mills 5-2 Marple

It’s unusual not to give player of the match to someone who scored 5, but today in midfield Elsie was outstanding. She deserved the trophy for her attacking play, creativity and effort. Well done Elsie. Special mention also for the strong second half display by Lucie alongside her in midfield
