Match Report NMJFC U7s - 14/01/24

The New Mills U7’s have had a fabulous start to ‘Proper Football’ in The High Peak District League and nobody could have imagined how comfortable this young squad would have settled. They are a tremendous group but more importantly….. They’re learning how to become a team!

We have suffered from a bit of illness & injury in recent weeks but this weekend we had them all available and the lads were ready to perform. It was absolutely freezing cold in Glossop and the fixtures before ours had been cancelled due to a frozen pitch. Thankfully, we had the 10:20am Kick-off and the sun was just beginning to defrost the pitch and the boys were chomping-at-the-bit to get going.

The Pre-Match team talk was about the skiddy surface, quick passing, making the ball do the work. They nailed it! This first-half is the best I have seen from our U7’s so far. We had Reuben in goal. You’re not allowed favourites as a coach, but this lad…… He’ll play anywhere, follow every instruction, run his socks off & does it all with a smile on his face. Max was back in the zone. Winning the ball and then getting it up the pitch. Max is Mr Safe & starts all our attacks.

We welcomed Finn back who had been waiting a few weeks to get back to dominating the game. He bossed the first-half and was setting up opportunities for the players that had been trying to fill his void when he had been missing. The passing was amazing and both Myles & Teddy have grown in confidence and they both found the back of the net on multiple occasions and The Mini-Millers were in their element. Some of the goal celebrations were outrageous 😁

The half-time team talk was all about keeping the team warm. Their feet & hands were cold and although some of them wanted to throw the towel in, they didn’t...

The rewards followed 💛🖤

Aiden took the gloves and he was unbeatable. Unpredictable but fantastic!

The temperature was now creeping just above freezing and some of the boys were feeling some warmth. We rotated the subs as often as we could. Ryan had started showing how important he is to this team and was unlucky not to get a goal. At the back Ned was reading the game ‘Like-A-Book’ and producing some brilliant tackles that simply stooped the oppositions attacks.

Finn piled in with a couple of great individual goals at the end and this meant The Mini-Millers were back💥

Tremendous team performance. We have no fixture next weekend but as coaches, we are looking forward getting out on that training ground and continuing this level of improvement you are showing us 💛🖤⚽️

Player of the Match went to Reuben🏆

If anyone epitomises what junior football is all about, it’s this lad! He just keeps getting better & better. Keep it going Reuben!

Our tremendous goalscorers-

Myles ⚽️⚽️⚽️

Teddy ⚽️⚽️

Finley ⚽️⚽️
