Match number 3 of the 25/26 season for the NMJFC U7's.
An 11.30 kick-off this week, against Bramhall North 75 Lions Red U7, NMJFC U7's the away team.
It was mild in temperature, but the rain was showing no mercy, so we knew the surface would be a little slippery and the ball would move quickly.
We had agreed our two goalkeepers in training, so Joseph took the gloves for the first half. Henry in defence, Ollie & Seb in midfield and Charlie up front.
The boys started very brightly, seemingly not noticing the torrential downpour they were playing in. They really took the game to Bramhall. A flurry of shots just wide, the Bramhall keeper doing a great job between the sticks.
We practiced corners in training this week, and the boys had clearly taken some of the training on board, but couldn't quite turn the corners from left & right into a goal.
Charlie was battling hard to keep the ball in the opponent's half, but the New Mills threat was coming from Seb & Ollie in midfield, both driving forward at every opportunity, their efforts rewarded with a goal for Seb.
The gamechangers waiting on the touchline were eager to get on the pitch. Alfred on for Charlie, Ollie off & Tobias on. Henry pushed up to midfield with Tobias sliding into defence.
Bramhall were looking to make the most of any space, down the wings, but probably more threatening, straight through the middle on the counter. When called upon Joseph looked strong between the sticks, stopping clear opportunities with hands & feet.
New Mills were not done with this half, another goal for Seb, then replaced by Louie.
Bramhall weren't done either pushing New Mills back, and managing to scramble a shot past Joseph.
Bramhall looked strong in the later part of the second half, but Henry was all over pitch, and managed to wriggle through a cluster of Bramhall players to find himself through on goal to slot the ball home with a fine finish.
A wet first half ends and the boys come in for a drink, and a quick team talk. The referee was keen for quick restart to the game, and New Mills were more than happy to get back out on the pitch.
Charlie took the gloves for the second half. Tobias at the back, Joseph & Henry in midfield and Ollie up front.
Ollie, Joseph & Henry terrorised the Bramhall midfield & defence, Ollie unlucky not to have had a hattrick in the first ten minutes, but the Bramhall keeper was on fine form. Joseph making the most of playing outfield, he probably touched every blade of grass.
Bramhall again looking to counter at every opportunity, but Tobias cleared & tackled when called upon, and Henry tracking back whenever Bramhall had the overload.
A couple more changes to keep fresh legs on the pitch, Seb & Alfred on. The New Mills passes were beginning to click, and Seb found himself on space on the edge of the Bramhall area. There was no mistaking where he wanted to put that ball.
The same pressure resumed, and another for Seb. Shortly after Ollie got the goal he deserved, after some fine play down the right & slotted home with finesse.
Louie was on to finish the game up front, and he seems to be looking to make that his position. Strong, and the turns to get himself towards goal were brilliant to watch. New Mills were unlucky to not have another before the final whistle.
Big thanks to Bramhall North 75 Lions Red U7. A great game, great sportsmanship throughout, and to the referee, a big 👍🏻.
