Sunday soon come around and we were served up another mega morning of sunshine, the sun had his hat, speedos and flip flops on, glorious... and the football wasn't bad either!
Chapel Town Colts were our opponents this week, a new team to the league and it has to be said they've come on immensely since we played them last, an 8-8 thriller in our first game of the season, fingers crossed for more of the same today! ⚽️🌞⚽️🌞
We were missing this week (in Connor Mcgregors voice)... "absolutely nobody!" Full squad today, all 10 players involved which meant all the Oranges would get eaten and the coaches would have their work cut out ensuring every player got some minutes.
Match report for 10 players? Make a brew n get comfy, it's gonna be a long one 🤯
Just like his boots - it was Myles who got us off to a bright start! Pressing the Chapel Town defence he had them on the back foot early on, forcing their keeper into some fine saves.
He eventually finished off a great move with a cool finish into the bottom corner!
The 2nd half saw him playing at the back where he never once looked out of place, Chapel tried to close him down but his quick thinking and quick feet allowed him to dribble out of danger and play it forward 👌🏻
Finn was amongst the goals again this week, Chapel were having a tough time dealing with his pace and power, he was wiped out a few times but what impressed the coaches was how he was back to his feet raring to go, great character! It was a Bruno-esque free kick from distance that had the parents with their phones out in the 2nd half, a thunderous strike which left the keeper with no chance!
Finishing the game off at the back with his bezzie Myles, like a young Bruce and Pallister they were awesome, well done lads! 💪🏻
Ryan was as busy as ever on the left wing, putting in some brilliant crosses that our strikers were struggling to get onto the end of...
His decision making has improved loads in recent weeks, he was cutting back when there was a Chapel wall infront him, playing some nice one twos with the defenders to get himself into a better position.
Unlucky not to get on the score sheet today but overall a solid game for our silent Shinobi Ryan 🥷
Ned was right in the thick of it again this week, when Chapel broke forward he was there, steaming in like a tank!
We're working on Neds footwork in training now, controlling the ball at pace and getting his passes off quicker, something which he executed perfectly today.
Another great week for his development, Ned is becoming a handy little player for this team. 🤠
Aiden was back involved today after a spell in the treatment room. He played in defence in the first half, positioning himself well when Chapel were on the attack.
The 2nd half saw him push further forward to get himself involved in the action, well done Aiden, good to see you back 👍🏼
Harrison was doing the dirty work on the right hand side for us, getting stuck into his tackles and keeping Chapel quiet down that side.
Like Ryan, he was putting some great crosses into the box, we've worked on this in training so it's great to see him doing it in games now.
No goals today from Harrison thanks to the Chapel keeper having a great game, but his link up play with the forwards was superb 👊🏼
Reuben was showcasing his passing, playing the ball first time to the wide players at every opportunity.
He was rushing off his line when Chapel broke free and pressured them into mistakes.
His highlight of the second half came when he tipped a powerful effort onto the post, an outstanding save but as he rushed to get back to his feet Chapel buried the rebound into the top corner... "I'm not long enough to save them yet am I Dad?" he said with a smile on his face, positive as always Roo 😅
Teddy was back on the scoresheet, ice cold slotting home a penalty in the first half, clelebartaing infront of the parents, we've not seen that for a while! In a game where we had to rotate more frequently, he made sure he was ready when it was time to come back on.
He was composed on the ball again, switching the ball from one side to the other, we need our forwards to be alive to that now because when Teddy's on the ball he's picking you out! 📡
Max went up against their big lads again, battling hard for every ball and never giving up! It helps when your good with your feet aswell, he was turning Chapel inside out at times, laying the ball off to the wingers to get our attacks going.
After seeing his efforts saved early on it was a joy to see him grab his goal in the second half, we're lucky to have defenders who can chip in with goals and Max is right up there! ⭐️
Mama Mia 🤩🤩🤩
What a performance from our little superstar Mia! If you've ever seen our training sessions in Glossop on a Thursday night you will see how we drill the kids in passing it out from the back... when it comes off in a match we can't tell you how proud it makes us coaches feel!
Let's see a replay shall we...
Reuben's rolled it out to Teddy, he's switched it out to Max, dodges a tackle and sends Ryan down the left wing, he drills a powerful cross to the Chapel box and just when you think there's nobody there (it's in slow motion now)... Mia comes racing out of nowhere and smashes it first time into the bottom corner, it could of been anyone but it had to be Mia!
Glossop can be a wild place but let me tell you it got proper wild when that goal went in, it sent her team mates, coaches and parents into rapturous celebrations!
What a goal!
That set the tone as she grew into the game and caused Chapel loads of problems, it was a pleasure to see her back to her best.
After scoring a screamer in training on Thursday and finishing off one of our best goals of the season today, it was a pleasure to see Mia awarded with the player of the match trophy! 🏆
That was the last of our trilogy against Chapel Town, some brilliant games over the last few weeks, high calibre, competitive and as always great respect shown at the final whistle 🤝🏻
We spoke to the kids after the game about how well they did individually but also collectively as a team, it was a really really positive performance!
To see the things we work on in training coming to life in games... it's so rewarding 😍
They are superstars, all 10 of them!
Win, lose or draw... it's good vibes only 💛🖤
