The U8’s were up against Wythenshawe Jaguars today in the Stockport Metro league.
The boys were missing Jackson, so went with a 5v5 set up consisting of Stanley taking a turn in goal, James in defence, Teddy and Rhys in midfield and Charlie J as striker.
The boys started well with James and Stanley immediately called into action and dealing with the threat.
We started to create our own attacks and Rhys was unlucky with a strike to the post.
Following this, Teddy struck the other post and Charlie J struck the crossbar!
We were starting to wonder if it wasn’t our day just as Teddy hit one home at close range that rebounded from a saved Charlie J strike.
Just what the boys needed, and deserved after a really strong first half.
Charlie T came on for Charlie J and added some much needed calm, chasing down goal kicks and keeping the pressure on the Jaguars.
A swap of keeper at half time meant we could unleash Stanley back into midfield and Teddy put on the gloves for goal keeper for the 2nd half.
Stanley soon got to work cutting down the right side and slicing a fantastic goal in at a tight angle.
Both Charlie’s and Rhys rotated in midfield and striker positions, soon Rhys struck the post again and this time it was the inside and it was in for a goal!
It wasn’t all one way with the Jaguars counter attacking well and catching us off guard a few times, fortunately James was superb in defence and managed to slow or stop the attacks again and again.
Teddy was also put to test saving a very hard free kick.
Into the last few minutes of the game Charlie J struck the crossbar (again), this time it hit the keeper before passing over the line for a goal.
A superb game for the boys today, all playing their part and working well, at points the passing was excellent and they were rewarded for their efforts getting 4 different scorers on the sheet and arguably their best performance of the year.
