Match Report NMJFC U8s - 23/03/24

Today the U8’s were up against High Lane Hawks in a friendly match in the Stockport Metro League.

We hadn’t come up against the Hawks before but having seen them play, we knew they were a good team.

We started with Charlie T taking the first half in goal, Rhys and James in defence, Teddy and Stanley in midfield and Charlie J as striker.

We started out well soaking up the pressure and putting together some great passing moves of our own. Charlie T made some saves when the pressure was on and our defences were put to the test.

We got Jackson on for Teddy and he soon got to work on the right getting his tackles in and runs forward.

The 2nd half was really good with New Mills having the run of play for parts. Some excellent passing and tackles kept the opposition working hard.

The boys had their work cut out, not only were the Hawks a tough opponent, but it also felt like the wind was against us as times!

We brought Teddy back on in defence working with Charlie T, both keeping any threats away. James moved up as striker before dropping into midfield and switching with Jackson and Charlie J,  Rhys took on goalkeeper duties.

Stanley came alive on the left really finding his form and providing lots of chances going forward.

A really great performance from the boys today, with all playing their part, and not giving up despite the challenging weather.

We decided to split the Player of the match award. Stanley was super today, not only getting a goal but also 2 assists. Another great performance from Rhys, first half he was determined not to let anyone past him, and a great goalkeeper performance in the 2nd half - with a contender for goal of the season!!
