Match Report NMJFC U9s Derby Day - Hornets V Wasps - 4/2/24

This group of U9’s who represent New Mills every weekend are a pleasure to watch.

Bees, Hornets & Wasps 💛🖤

All of the players in this group have come on leaps & bounds and the introduction of new players is proof that this place has an abundance of talent. The Hornets are originally NM U7’s Blacks. The Wasps are a combination of NM Blacks & NM Yellows (from when we were U7’s) but with new coaches and a few new players. The Wasps were brilliant and all the hard work from their coaches is obviously working as they have become a real force in this league. The kids all train together and 24Hrs before kick-off, this dedicated group of youngsters were playing a combined session on the astro at New Mills FC, in preparation for Sunday’s game. The match didn’t disappoint!

The weather in Glossop was dreadful and as the rain came down we were also dealing with some strong winds and The Hornets needed to keep the ball on the floor to create their attacks. Oliver B does this every week and he was doing his best to link-up the attacks.

We were up against Frankie C between the sticks for The Wasps and he was on top form and prevented chance after chance as The Hornets tried to gain a early advantage.

It was a scrappy affair, but if I’m being honest, it was clear to see is this Wasps team are tough and they were not going to allow anybody to have it their own way. Albie⚽️ was continuing to display the great form he is in and as he linked up with Oliver B, Ollie M & Ronan, you could feel the goal was coming. It was a toe-poke in the end from Maestro but come half-time, we had an advantage.

The lads had a proper chat at half-time and we tried to come up with a plan that would allow us to get some control of our possession and we agreed that the only way to beat Frankie C (Wasps GK) was to build up the attack, get as close to goal as possible and only shoot when right in front of him . . . .  What do we know?! The other Frankie⚽️ (Hornets) decided to use the windy-weather to his advantage and hit an absolute beauty from the right wing and it nestled in the top corner.

Oliver L was breaking up play and protecting the Hornets and although Finley had one-eye on a early exit, he won every tackle and showed his determination whilst often competing against his cousin!

This was great to watch. Fenn didn’t have his busiest game but when called upon, was up to every challenge. Ronan was creating chances for the team and setting up the attacks by playing the ball out wide and this resulted in Ollie M⚽️ scoring once again. Ollie M is our Andy Cole and anything that comes into that area gets ‘poached’.

Rocket continued unleashing his missiles and between him, Ollie M & Oliver L & Albie, the frame-work of the oppositions goal was taking an peppering. Ronan⚽️ manged to have one more go at goal and hit a cracker for The Hornets.

Player of the Match was an obvious choice. Oliver L🏆 had his best game so far this season and was unbelievable in every position we asked him to play!

Both teams left the pitch with smiles on their faces and another fantastic representation for New Mills and the Junior Football Club.

 💛🖤⚽️
