Match Report NMJFC U9s Hornets v Tintwistle - 12/11/23

Match Report NMJFC U9s Hornets - 12/11/23

Sunday is our fun day and this weekend was going to be no different. The lads are as focused as I have ever seen them in the 3 seasons they have been playing competitively. We knew from previous encounters that Tintwistle was going to be a tough challenge aswell as a very physical test and the opposition didn’t disappoint.

Before kick-off we paid our respects to those who have served our country and we asked the boys to imagine the sacrifices that generations of our armed forces have made to allow them this freedom & lifestyle they live. We finished the pre-match chat by asking them to be tough & play with pride.

Tintwistle began the game ‘All Guns Blazing’ and the young ref had a tough job on her hands as some of the tackles on our players were outrageous. Pitch 3 at Glossopdale began to look like a war scene as The Hornets were being subbed off with injuries . . . . . . . . Well it was Remembrance Day.

The Hornets had to Toughen’ Up and start to allow their football to do the talking cos if you held onto the ball for more than a second or two, you were guaranteed a sniper was on its way! It didn’t take the boys too long to adapt and they soon got the ball on the floor and the quick interchange, passing game came back and Albie⚽️ benefited and hit a beauty to get the scoring underway.  Albie⚽️ was settling in now and had found his shooting range and sure enough, the next goal followed just before Half-Time.

Second-Half our opposition came out like coiled-springs and it was clear that the game plan was to get ‘Stuck In’ and the freekicks were now all going our way. This played into our hands and although the lads didn’t appreciate the brutality they were receiving, it did allow them to work those set-pieces and once again the dynamite in Albie’s ⚽️ boots allowed him to fire off another missile and this completed a fully deserved Hat-Trick. Well done Maestro 💥 💥 💥

Fenn was adapting to his new position as ‘Sweeper Keeper’ and it was like he was in a lookout tower as monitored the progression of the enemy attack before sprinting out to clear his lines. Superb work from Fenn and he also made a couple of great saves to make sure he had another clean-sheet. In the Trenches we had Finley, Frankie, Oliver L and Ronan. All these boys put in a real shift in and although they weren’t shy going beyond enemy lines, they all made sure they returned to defend the crown.

Finley & Oliver L both having to spend time with the medics on the sidelines as they were victims of a Kamikaze style attack form our opponents.

Tintwistle began to retreat and this allowed The Hornets the chance to capitalise. Oliver B and Ollie M were running the firing squad and were both very unlucky not to find the target.

Ronan⚽️ manged to keep a Rocket up his sleeve and he decided to launch it just at the right time . . . . boom!

The Hornets allowed themselves some R&R in the last few minutes and were happy knocking the ball around. It was only when a Tintwistle defender used his helmet to clear the ball that we were presented with an indirect free-kick from within the area. Oliver B rolled the ball to Frankie⚽️ who sent a grass-cutter into the back of the net!

A heroic performance on a poignant day when the boys were like soldiers. Nobody lead that battle-cry more than Frankie🏆 who never stopped talking and motivating his team-mates. A cool head was needed and he lead by example and I am proud to say he won the POTM award.

Well done Hornets - You stayed tough and made us all proud!

⚽️🖤💛⚽️
